How are you, Merlin Man? Or Moisture Weber. Like he's making a spiral and the arrows go in a circle. And there's a woman who talks about how she uses Crisco in her recipes and had her name on the screen. There's a new New Jersey Assemblywoman named Dawn Fantasia, a USA Today reporter named uh Riley Begin, and an LA weatherman. This week's challenge, make a no-coding app. I wrote down stuff in the drafts document. I don't know, it looks kinda like I don't know if it's a dentist thing or a sex toy, but it's one of those little foamers with the ring on it. I've been using databases and spreadsheets. It's just it's just it's basically it's just it's like a bookmark. You know what I'm saying? And it made me a big ass JavaScript file and said, now you're gonna need these to go to go to brew or whatever, get these two libraries.

But how long does it take you to figure that out? uh ChatGPD helped me out with things I do. I'm not going to go into it here, but uh if you think with half a brain for a minute, you can understand why that's valuable for a variety of reasons. What I ended up with that this is all Chatty G doing the work, it gave me the commands that I needed. And I want you to cat those into a new file where the title of the episode, the name and number of the episode is going to be an H2. Like don't be cute about it. Kennesaw Mountain Mandis. 'Cause I just said toppy smelly. And we're like, oh I think it's oh the schedule says this one's late. No, I've never had either and I've always loved it. I love stuffed animals as a thirty-four year old adult.

Yeah. And and then cause I was bonkers. Or seven there's seven of them um with fourteen total years. Like look up and everybody loves it. That's not true. Yeah, I do have that. Uh I mean I've got all kinds of data sitting around, but I uh most especially have spreadsheets that I actively maintain. Yeah yeah yeah. Yes, Rebecca Rebecca. Right. Sometimes. Like 'cause you can get your data out of it too, but then you're building a routine around something that I'm going to do. But I just the the stake in the ground I'm trying to to put here is that sinking even of calendars and contacts Like where you've got your tech stack over here and then you have the thing that connects these things together.

ChatGPT's relationship to things on the web, I can't quite get a bead on like what it really can do or will do. It's almost like the way it's almost like saying write it just to the to the terminal shut up, sir. by ChatGPT and what I ended up with I want to be able to get all of the stuff from show notes from previous episodes into the show. From the command line. blah blah blah this and that and that's where you really benefit if you need to get more specific and tell it in my case I just kind of kind of got frustrated because I was like look I'm in inspect element I can see that this is what I want it's unique to the page why is that a problem Hey, here's everything you might have forgotten from season one of Severance that included a bunch of shit I totally didn't notice.

Yeah. Because of the wind chill and you get that what they call the lake effect? And Dallas Reigns, man, to me, he should be up there with, I gotta learn all the names. His name is Dallas Reigns. From the eighties through today. from Detroiters and that guy from Arrested Development. Isn't that a great name? Then and yeah, that's his real name. Boy, I was instantly in love with this guy and his moves. You see the beauty of him like stepping in and all the weather people do this, all the ladies and the dudes all do this. It's not all just like heart pumps and AI. Mm tanning bed? than the current ones. Sussie Roach, uh she's one of the roaches, the sisters that sing. Uh the I should I started writing down where I got it from.

Named Alice Reigns. And that mmm. His name's Pete. All right, here we go. Uh the Facebook I thought I was approximately tripling my work each week is what I thought. Okay, let's uh let's start the show. misgendering you in another way too, which is I realized I treat you I treat you like a little sister and I realize I should probably treat you more like a little brother. Secretly, they don't act on it, but I think all cats uh are like it's like in England they call it being a nonce. I liked his outfit. Or change it because prescribed fires were confusing people. Air inhibit. But like a little teddy bear sized uh and like and I really warned that and I eventually got it, which made me extremely happy because I love stuffed animals as a kid.

And I found ways to just be uh be a happy enough lonely boy. Like it this it looks like a movie set. uh the way that I so mercilessly harass you, uh I think i well, one is it reminds me of uh Madeline and her older brother, slightly older brother Sam. He's the penultimately youngest. If y beating you beating someone up would be nearly as effective as you destroying them emotionally, not even because you couldn't beat someone up, but just that you're not going to be able to do that. Wi with hopefully just still still some patina of love uh observable. Please know that I we do a lot of bits, including me, about how I I have been bipolar, lots of mental illness. Not gonna say. Tear up the highway as we're driving there.

Catholic families of more than two kids and it seems like they're all just horrible to each other. Like the Codenid way, where it's just like a class a classic, and of course this is a bit, it's I'm I'm not only am I just quoting someone else's comedy, but I imagine this is slightly exaggerated. John's father the lawyer stories. Like w we're all or at least a lot of people uh in my world are kind of recovering Catholics and we're still like like The church sure was weird, but and it now it's almost like, oh, we're almost doing self-g like we're we're nice to one another again because it's like, oh, we didn't fourteen years older than Madeline and then there's uh five others between the two of them.

that we kept pushing off, we kept uh pushing, and then finally I said, you know, actually you seem kind of busy plus I think I I might want to take some baths. And we know this 'cause she went to the doctor and the doctor said, You have uh influenza A and she was just sick as fuck for she's still coughing like crazy. uh you know gave her this diagnosis that she made up. Oh yeah. Uh weather. eighty bucks and it's changed everything. Oh no, I just don't I just don't like the taste. Oh yes, it's absolutely awesome. Same thing with Balord. Yeah, exactly. ever a bit. uh detection in uh dictation software not dictation software but transcription because y it's almost like word for word. But I got a book tote from Adeline because she's got the book.

The point is, the challenge this week, I had noticed, oh sorry we doing the challenge ready? I mean, spoiler alert, I did not deploy any of mine and I'm going to tell you why. Make a make a make a no-coding app. to a spreadsheet. From like an interaction standpoint, it's a weird thing to be doing through the intermediation of a website. But yes, I'm totally with you. I mean you either like you just said, uh is getting stuff in there, but especially for me, um, my my brief period of only having a phone and uh no no laptop, oh, Google Sheets has gotten better. It gets kind of confusing, but you have items and you have categories and you have attributes. Both think there's it sounds like we've already stipulated to what makes us go, I don't know, I wouldn't be all in on this because dot dot dot.

But stay on the horse. wouldn't you say are like all about like strictly business stuff that you certainly could adapt. Are you a business person that wants to make an app out of your data? So if you go to we're talking about the same thing, uh Glide go like i if glideappps dot com yeah and Things like the classics that you would get like as templates with any kind of a database program. peer referral, I don't even know what that means. Because you can guess what I was looking for, it's all the stuff I'm always looking for with with these sorts of things. Like you really you get like in your browser, you're getting like a fake iPhone where you can just move the buttons around and and basically be using it.

Yeah, yeah. Yeah. comes with a built-in, I don't know what you call it, library, dictionary, of like so many integrations with shortcuts that really utterly changes the way you use it, but you are gonna have to be okay with using shortcuts, which can be frustrating. This is exactly the main thing that I wanted to talk about because while it's well I agree and my observation is not intended in any way as saying, well don't use these or but it was it was one of these challenges that's been cool because It's one of the well and I'll talk about this later when we talk about ChatGPT. I would just say like I had this realization of I'm like, why am I so like uh about putting m my data into this when I, you know, pour Which sounds silly.

All of my stuff is a chance to do that. Good. Fiddley with uh Raycast or uh El Alfred. For for decades. In and out via a CSV that actu is actually readable, not just like, you know, one of those services. I would have to import, I would have to export all my data from one place, import it into the other, and then then what am I going to use do? or let let's l let's talk let's talk about you know context and calendar stuff. sinking the way we think about it today. between say, as I crazily did, between me. Oh my god, I had an app for this and it was a mess. full sync of my contacts because I was going on a trip and then everything would get borked. Now, well, I just uh first I want to just give some context if anybody's interested that it's awesome that that works now, whether that's through whatever service you have that just seamlessly pushes changes correctly to different places, it's fantastic to have that.

Like you had to like be you had to really ride on all of that, but and it was not very fun. any variety of reasons. Right? But here's the thing now, pivoting. That has been a huge thing for me using ChatGPT where I ask for what I think I want and then it gives me something and I realize maybe that anyway, well that's a different conversation. Um, but yeah, there was a time where you could be creative and go make all these different apps and put all the stuff in it, but like it wasn't very fun to have to deal with all of that. And it did it like it did an okay good job with that, but that ain't a Mac app. Shits and giggles, I went into ChatGPT and did the same thing. is absolutely incredible. ChatGPT has no not many formal limitations in what data I can hook to other data, right?

And so like that uh that has spoiled me, Alex. And a law chat GPT, I w I wish it had that ad hoc ability to just know what I mean when I say, well now correlate that with my sleep. you know, from the Kennedy administration. God, even at the beginning of Web 2. You you're better off doing it on your Mac and having it interact with your local m apps on your Mac, which you can do now. than I do and I I I do admire it. in in a way that like w whereas I'm more like, mmm, until I know more about why that's worth doing, I'm not gonna do that. uh using the actual, you know, the the data that I've compulsively col collected for years. type of medication or I had like some allergic reaction to to something.

even if that's just how it starts, uh I may be resistant to very subtle cues that this project really shouldn't be about making an app. You're allowing that cognitive dizziness to be part of your life. And I don't know if it would be best. Uh Reconcilable Differences is another podcast I do. John and I picked out while we were recording. If not least because you can link to a previous episode or pivoting, you can find a link to something that you linked to when you talked about it on that episode. And say, give me every title of the show we've ever had. And then eventually you do the brute force, which is you just copy the entire thing, you paste it in. Because I know just enough to be dangerous.

Like from the command line and I said, Well, give me the command for that, and blah blah blah. You know, I'm not gonna blow all my D script credit for the next five years on on that and MacWhisper's not really up to it yet, as we talked about on Slack. that you append to each section. Like rather than saying, tell me how to cat all of these files into a thing, that's an XY problem because maybe that's not the solution. Well eventually I just gave it a little more more more cues and and you know what? Hmm. There's no damage to the wall. He just keeps charging everyone the same amount. to somebody. best on camera and stuff like that and there's motion but he does this thing where Dallas I I I bet people in LA love this.

And he does this thing where he keeps looking at you and he extends his finger and he starts drawing an arrow. Yes. Oh please. Apollo, uh carry on uh Quiboloy, Skip Muck. Yep, yep. Here's the thing though. I think there's a very I think there's a difference between the Smiths and Morrissey. You know, as part of being a lonely boy is I internalized a lot of TV and I craved a lot of the for me, at least in my own canon, an example of this is like I would watch the Brady Bunch and be so envious. ever gave Madeline any flack, he'd beat the shit out of her. Yes. who uh defends them and I'm like I I'll I will fucking destroy you. It's actually par partially because yes, we're all told that we must hate ourselves.

had some of his most success in life when he was repressing his homosexual tendencies. Like we uh th thank god there was there was d l no ab abuse like physical abuse within my family. of his town in Iowa. I might tr no, I'm not gonna try to find off her notes. have to hate ourselves. you know, sometimes makes the sting a little worse, but other times makes the sting sort of wear off and like I don't know. We c we could, you know and then I spent a lot of this morning delaying the show 'cause I kept thinking I w it was like I was trying to lance a boil. to get more information out of me and I know I have way too much stuff than I could ever use. Okay, so so you're doing the fully endorsed like Dr.

And uh um oh hey new listeners. Kick it right away. And he makes this uh he comes home at like three or four o'clock. Yeah, yes, yeah. I you know, okay, we could do a I'll do whatever you want. If w uh soon, hopefully, we will have good uh uh voice d or um like like good voice dictators Delta is a little girl in their commercials. Um, would you say that you're building a web app essentially? uh in most cases l fewer than a hundred lines or sorry rows and usually like two or three columns that are of any importance and I instantly was like oh of course that totally makes sense it's You're basically going to be fashioning with the help of this service. Uh C yep. You know, and and it's just the interaction model is kind of weird and the key commands don't work exactly the way I would expect and sometimes the page just falls apart.

Oh no, that's it. Yeah. You enter in the data that you want captured. things is like let's say you're a fan of beer, like craft beer, and people will make a note of like when they had a certain kind of beer and like it'd be one thing to go like, oh I had uh I had two cans of Miller Light. Oh yeah. If you feel like doing show notes for this, that would be awesome. think this is something that a lot of people at Proctor and Gamble are going to be using in the field. But uh but but but yeah but they both do, I believe. Yeah. editorial apps. I th that that was kind of the thing with using um the glide stuff where I'm like uh I I I don't know. purely with shortcuts. While it didn't give you what you wanted, what you thought you wanted, what you hoped for, it definitely does give you clarity about what it is you actually want.

Thing I've realized, if there is a something where there's a huge data like like if there's a huge security breach on Google or even like chat GPT, that's with that, whereas I don't know. protecting your stuff in the way that you authenticate and keeping the it seems anyway. But I will say this about Glide that did impress me. Okay. Again, uh that's a tool that's designed for business people. to your Mac. I think even in my kids' life, there have been times where, well shit dog, look at look at like, you know, apps like Even Drafts or most annoyingly, notes. Sink up until you open it. Or it, you know, you look at, you know, the way you can hook it up with um like the ChatGPT or sorry, the OpenAI playgrounds, where like they really do sort of work together.

timestamped. One really cool thing I think about I don't know how well this works in practice, but I think this is neat. Where like I think all the interest in quote unquote task management with this new feature or reminders is kind of dumb and the idea of having time jobs is fascinating. if I am just throwing all of my stuff i in there, like, all right, g coop cool, it uh it it seems to work, but th like you, I'm like, oh, this doesn't really work the way I I I want to. la uh language parsing w with certain apps for uh calendar or task things. because it's like a l electron or something and that like I I I mean, I don't know. having just the like code live basically in not n not really like a mar a markdown f file, but having Obsidian able to talk to uh Overarching name for a service, it's not an app.

Please, you know, this is my F R F-O-R dummies. Uh uh honestly, I've been for like, you know, for years, it's like why are you people are asking why why do you need that? like m medication stuff and it's like, oh wow, that's really helpful to know that uh the time I was in the hospital this time there was I was on uh this Lee collected data like I want it all. I don't want a data inbox. where you get so ambitious on creating an app, for example. Let me cut right to the chase. you know, just telling people how to find more efficient ways to waste their life is not a way to become productive. and make an app to discover that it's not what I wanted. what titles exist as potential titles, what titles then, editorially, what titles are good, what links should be in here.

creating a supercut of John Syracuse saying the word scroll forty times in an hour. It has done for me what I don't actually need it to do for me. Right. And then what that became was like what's the fastest way for me to download every detail page for the podcast? And it gave me a bunch of different solutions. And then I said, the name of these files is the episode number of the show. Second, it's awesome that it has enough ability with the content that I care about, which is what John and I said and did did and recorded. I I I I can't contain my excitement for this approach to things. is stuff involving scripting and technology. Mm-hmm. are capable of is like th the m the middle of the road.

But I love the relationship that the Chatty G and I have developed for that combination of both Do you wish Severance? There's like two different kinds of two different kinds of memory, but there's you got the second kind of second kind of memory, which is like episodic uh versus semantic. So, you know, like the guy says, if somebody handed you a glass of water, you wouldn't say what is this and pour it on your head. Because I can ask it now. It scraped the screen grab to turn it into links. And the windows are not open, but the drapes are open. And everybody was like, How does he do that? Like a lot of people on the TV. Did you make this into a app slash spread? The uh we're it it's gonna be cut out.

You yeah, you you're allowed to call me mentally ill for any reason on uh your favorite meta platforms now. All cats are girls. Well that's I mean it's yes. Really? it wasn't on anymore. He is, yes. Me here, me here. in the family because I haven't uh d like I I don't because I haven't gotten cancer. my old old my car hey I'm not gonna make work for you. What? Because it seems like 'cause like I hear a Conan talking about his family. I think we're very I think we're very close to my all-time favorite Richard Splett line. Yeah, you know, th have s a semblance of like spirituality and stuff, but we're all like, ooh man, that sure was some weird it's that's enough like emotion behind to have like resentment.

Yeah. that uh I'll quote myself, uh suggested tomorrow be a quote, catching up with new technologies episode. And uh and they said, Yeah, yeah, you totally got the flu. And I am near them. at least one and a half times last week. And you were very nice about it. Um still still can't handle it. Yeah, yep, best part of waking up is vultures crystals. This this this clarion bell ringing in my head about what a fucking dumb, boring piece of shit I am. I is this a is that a rich? Oh, oh, that's here, I'm look at Oh, is that a challenge coin? And whether it's commercial, well all the ones I've seen are commercial or mostly commercial, but you go out and if you've got some data or some stuff, you can build But with that I can just go in and hit the little plus button and I get a little on my phone or my Mac or whatever.

And in fact, you know, A, I've got a bookmark on my iOS second page, but B But you know, actually, you know, it sounds like we could sort of almost get past all the the mouth words and just get straight to what what the the slightly amazing but incredibly frustrating thing about these. from their business templates to be a way of keeping track of stuff at your house. It I'm like, wait, is this like a notion type thing? performance reviews, you know, all that kind of like HR and resource management adjacent stuff. my I was trying to do m um another like little mood tracking app and there's you know the the data and then oop the data and the the layout and I'm like okay so this is just a s and it's it's very easy to use this almost like um the what's it called emulator.

it was not n any more useful or uh faster than what I uh use I use chronicling um which is an iOS app. fast, easy. When when you think it's a way of like identifying here's the kind of thing I want to like track or count, especially. That is a big enough deal that the wor like people understand like that those companies have the resources to deal. I realized that there were some more significant things involving data that made this not really right for me, even as great as it could be for somebody who does decide to go all in on it, I I suppose. Ooh, no, I agree. you know, my uh my i excuse f t to play with them. I will want. Or and this might be a pivot to the rant I'd like to do in a minute, um, or is this something where you could end up spending a fair amount of time making an island of data?

I well I mean that's kind of why I use that's also like uh why I uh adore obsidian and th an anything with Markdown. Like is there a thing that you have fairly specifically wanted for a long time that this might be able to do Like I I didn't I didn't have enough or didn't put enough into it enough time, but like you can get almost everything out and to be on your palm and you did. Because let's just say like even into the two thousands so when there were ways to sync You can I guess you could argue about whether that's even a a smart thing to do, but that was the state of things. So I made an app for this challenge. No. uh Xcode, right? purchasing page, uh, did a search on knife in my history, did a screen grab of that.

I did one the other day where I wanted to make a little uh table of all the different folding knives that I have, you know, like pocket knives. understands context so well and does a good enough job at finding data and filling in. I I'm so addicted to that ability to synthesize, combine, um, and act upon different data sets. that like I just have a block at the point of well go make an app and the data sets in that. Or it which sounds nuts to to like a normal person who's in the enterprise. That was my hang up a little bit was this ends up as cool as these services are, it feels a little dated. Like that's the thing is like it's data first at this point. Um over. for me as well uh is I am more open to trying other things that aren't necessarily absolutely best designed IO n like a native iOS app or a native Mac.

Uh it makes it line. the way you think or even your imagination. Well but the only re the only time I cr I I guess the only way I do that comfortably now is with the data first idea because you know if Uh d I don't use it enough. Yeah, it's it's the it's like f the four dummies. kind of wrapper f with it. Yeah. silly things like what comic books I was reading in college. Or, you know, you can just say date like a person. try I realize I want to have uh uh I I want to try and use n things that will m manipulate stuff, but I don't want more buckets of uh where things are stored. um if you got the uh I don't know words anymore, uh if you're inspired to like create your own little no code app, I think that would be really cool.

Like if we were going to be a little bit philosophical about this, well, rather than saying, like, here's this cool thing, and this is one reason I quit being a productivity guy, you know? what the landscape is for doing the thing that I would like to do. Uh I just ChatGPT in particular has just become so important impuls for me and like in making and learning these kinds of things very quickly. So, I mean, I I go into it thinking things like, I want to be able to continue feeding DScript and ChatGPT previous titles of episodes. Because then I can say I can give it the instructions, which are like Suggest titles for this episode. titles to like inspire you. My tool historically, which I still use every day, site colon, do by Friday.

So like, you know, and again, this is not this is not a no-touch application and you have to know a little bit about spans and IDs and stuff like that. And it was one of those kind of confusing apps. It's good at dealing with the stuff, the things, the data that I care about. very very beginning in terms of m manipulating this type of data. Ooh, I believe it is 10 degrees. Seed sort for cedar. I've sent you a video. relationships. weird template of a person in my family and no matter what uh gender or sexuality I inhibit it it It's like you know what I mean? I hey everybody don't listen. No, no. Um and what's the thing, once we have all worked through our damages, it's kind of like The well with with us, it wasn't even uh it it was just like a lack of relationship.

Was that that what was our do we make a determination? If there was a caffeine tablet that dissolved fast enough, I would still be on that train. Yeah, it's I d I wish that I could enjoy and save her. uh I don't know if this is a the term of art, but about what they're what I'd seen called no coding apps. Um and then um well pause right there before I get into value judgments. So or like with categories. Now that you can do this with uh so easily with uh control center, I've also added a little shortcut in there. Zoho or like any of those, or for that matter, even obviously any Salesforce clone, like where you're like glide, you immediately get the sense, oh Ugh, enterprise, like business component to it.

Uh the templates in the Google App version of this, which is called what, App Sheet or something like that? I think again of stuff like Delicious Library. Oh, see I I I mean I don't uh disagree, but I would say there's it's almost uh even more like it's extremely lightweight. The same way datum does. I'm trying to make this as abstract as possible. I I think it's a good thing. So and that's so like, you know, and you know, it worked okay. Getting that to work in a way that you don't have to think about and that you can trust, that is a fairly recent development. uh automatable that's highly hookupable. natively pull in stuff like location, right? You smart bears, smarter than the average bear people out there are gonna go, well, wait a minute, just because you said add a column for that, okay, great.

more fulsomely explore, but I'm s I'm now s such a pill about wanting all my data stuff to be in the same place. I'm I'm I'm much more let me put this way. I have been using spreadsheets and and JSON so much more. um into the stew and like have it all be rel even if it's not a relationship that's of value to anybody else, it's still I mean, like have you ever had to look up when you flew somewhere? But um but it it has helped ChatGPT and I work together on this and I learned more about what it could do for me, what Wait, is is cat a concatenate in in in um Thank you Yeah Thank you. There we go. Very well. Yeah, I mean I don't exactly understand it either. I have a new favorite I have a new favorite um weather weatherman by the way.

Like we had a guy we had a guy in Tampa in the 80s and his bit was he would be standing behind a map on glass and then he would write all the temperatures backwards from the other side. Oh, thank you, Susan. I thought those are bit that you were leaning into. I was like old enough to be a a person to them. the ill sister, sort of. discipline came in just the emotional uh I I don't like the the the Mulaney way. recount season right now. The oh the f what is it the five topics you should never discuss? Viving the I'm on a uh from our iconic yellow coffee can to our sweet and creamy fli Oh god, I hate the word creamy. Hello. This is f for an aspiring small business. Right. I guess I want something like this.

From being the data set you've been using and trusting for years. Or it's all just my Gmail mail stuff. is the bike log of of your. um brand name and URL, something like that. and synthesis first. into obsidian or at that like trying out Notion was easy like throwing all that stuff in. But as long as I'm doing that, why don't I go a little bit further and I'm like and this is where the collaboration gets good M basically I it wouldn't handle it if I dropped it in as 251 files, understandably And then over here on my left hand is all the means for doing those kinds of things, for correlating that day, and for doing stuff like I said last night, where like I just give it a screenshot of my King is um playlist.

over an hour on my own. Listen, my landlord, as long as he continues to not understand that his property values are skyrocketing, then It's literally freezing, but there's snow on the ground, so there's an illusion of lots of sunlight. uh like a lot of this kind of news, you know, with like local people and, you know, uh weather on the ones and all that kind of stuff. Yes. I love my toys. There's a difference between uh uh Jeff Rosenstock and um oh crap, the Andes of his friend who does fake problems and I oh Ventures, what's their band name? Proceed and then uh Oh god, don't be organized. From um the 99% invisible. I wasn't a well, also, I was like, ooh, putting my data in here, like I said, this is our concern, dude.

The the that ended up being the uh th the only th thing really. In in inside that apps world, and that's where my squick comes from, ultimately. And fast forward, I gotta say, I think this is remember what I said a minute ago how like sometimes you use something and while it didn't do what you hoped or thought it would do, it does make you realize something. I don't want all of that stuff to reside somewhere other than where it already is, which for the sake of argument, let's just say Google Sheets. Yeah, that's dated is a vo. more fiddly to try thing, like new new stuff, but uh if you're Your uh enthusiasm, I think, ha just emphasizes how you gotta just tell it what you want. Oh fuck you! in the air, but where he's drawing appears on the map.

Yeah. You know, like which which direction should I go with this? You know, I actually cushion goes with that chair. I don't want to own a house. When you're like, oh, it's not good. So it has been a while we're back. Well and I uh wi with the like uh you know, there's it's like you have the um or at least for for It just sounds funny. Well, and it it there are just a few like I mean I miss the autom some of the automation type stuff, so I I feel like I have an excuse to get And then put some alcohol on it, because you know that's how you if you've got a stress bump. And I'm I'm no Syracusa. That's good. Oh yeah. Yes. And and they also love when people talk about weather and it's root talk about how do we get here?

I wanna have coffee. And it's a beautiful, very, very just it's a beautiful thing. I shouldn't put the cap in my left pocket. The guy uses his hips in a really effective way, Dallas Reigns. No, I th it was not around. And so it asks you know, like what are you using this for and yeah m um my uh work, school, Instagram, blah blah blah. Yeah, in fact um um you can go through I wonder if it'll publish right now. Yeah. My spotlight settings are all fucked up. So I mean, which is great and and it works just fine. Hey. I am not dragging this man's appearance if you don't do this. Um Chatty G, as we apparently started calling it at the same time. I thought you were gonna go for Boriseed. No, I wouldn't beat the shit out of anybody, but I wouldn't make fun of them until they got an eating disorder.

See, I thought we made all this up. Like everything you do is self-effacing. What what? Well the the one oh gosh, where is it? And it's you know, if you wanted to make you know a good example uh that might be just not for me because I have other things for this, but tracking movies or books That's cool. I'm really I'm so I'm sorry, this is really our dumb rant. Yes. Um I'm gonna tell you some things about Dallas Reigns because you're not seeing Dallas Reigns in motion right now. I I don't know. So you go in and you describe what it is that you want to make. Hey Dallas Reigns, this motherfucker's using technology. Um Claude Raines, I think that's no E, but I kinda like the fact that there's an E in this.

I remember Toppy Smelly extremely clearly, and there are a handful of you out there that are probably having some kind of combination of PTSD and an erection right now. Politics, religion, weather. Like there's uh it's just little little skinny text files just sitting around and they're very easy to they're they're portable, they're you know, they're readable, like there's there's nothing not to love about it But one of them is I use four or five different calendar apps in different places at different times because it's all the same data set. We don't need to hate each other anymore. I'm I mean the I I want to hear about what you I got stuff to say. And and s so you could have an AWS bucket sitting out there that has your undoing in it.

And then there was some, if memory serves, there was some kind of weird like middleware that would like let it talk to Outlook or or whatever. I uh was having an argument wi uh with our friend the other day, uh just how everything uh that most LLMs I think that's that's the end. Are you allowed to open the book? Oh here's another good one. You probably don't. I like the He was off duty last week. I feel like there's some good recent LLM stuff, uh stuff and other stuff that I feel like we haven't really talked much about lately, and I didn't know if that would be interesting to you or to the audience, but You know what I mean? It sounds so silly, but like sometimes, you know, you've gotta have the uh you gotta have the wrong boyfriend to realize what kind of boyfriend you want in life.

He caught me. Oh wow. Oh God. She's great. Uh I want to be able to add a sentence or two uh to a log and I want it to remember my exact location with uh GPS and let long and add uh a Unix timestamp, something like that. I won't let anyone else be queer. Anyway, my point is I'd tell you about it, but you wouldn't remember it. Oh man, Detroiters is good. Oh, Ste uh, okay, there we go. Like I like I like the decis decisions that she's made about it. And I'm I'm still gonna recommend this though now because the of the interactive widgets. I can now ask it, tell me the foods that John has a very strong opinion about. So what are what are some examples of the thing? Uh but in adulthood it has absolutely flipped in that I I know this may sound shocking, but I'm like the relatively normal one.

Oh, exactly. Like in like constant comment commercial or something. She's amazing. Like the this is the one app that actually works with shortcuts for me and and widgets. Actually we're running a little long here. Just spat the just spat the entire thing out, I uploaded it, and now I had it all in one place. Yes. We have built them of like we've we've built sort of templates of them and we've also built templates of human beings. I've always suspected that's one reason we sometimes don't record is you're afraid to be mean to me. They're they're both extremely uh uh effective, but um the I I I I it's a lot of. No, I'm sorry. It's like when I used to be on with Xfinity's support, I'd always want to show that I'm really smart and I would end up with the XY problem.

Um, but you don't know the color of your mother's eyes, because that's a different kind of of memory. Okay, that's good. Let's not. Um so why am I why am I a sister? Anyway, I'll work on it. Like a teacher or a nurse. And an example of this that would become salient is I I still am a daily user of an old app by the visualization guy called Datum, D-A-Y-T-U-M. If you do want to make, I don't know, for the sake of argument, make your own contact app, which let's set aside whether that's a good idea. That data okay that that's took a while. I don't want an emotional inbox. This is his real name. Bed sun bedan? Uh business do by Friday. Gosh, I'm a sorry. If you want to especially in Chicago, if you want to get like the drunkest, yes, yes, you just you just throw a couple back, it's gross.

Oh Lord. Maybe it's a paid endorsement. Because there are some where you're like, you know, you could give somebody these five five arbitrary apps and go like and they could go like, oh well these are all like fine, but you're like, yeah, but this one of those five I think um he doesn't recommend it, but Syracuse, I think, still uses it. And that's when I play with apps like Glide, I'm like, uh. 0, could you ever imagine you'd have web apps that could do this? Pete. What a great syndrome. That's bad, right? But clearly what I want is something that leverages, you know, the iOS stuff. How are you, Merlin? This m man does not uh I don't like the idea of yes, you are destined to be something, but Dallas Reigns Lucius Tarquinius Superbus.

But I did see the Brady Bunch Brady Bunch movie, which is quite a rise. But then you sound a lot like somebody else that I know. Oh gosh. Bone dry. It's not interesting. Yeah. And I'll come to this in a second. I mean dated as in like this would've been the coolest shit functionally or like UI wise and all that like Like I think it's I think it's valuable that like you do you do and will follow your nose thing Crisco had these commercials in the early eighties talking to real um kind of folksy, rootsy people about cooking. I was on like double helix back in the day and Microsoft Access. Stay on target. Because it's uh G uh Gmail is still uh I guess like one bucket. If I go into this project and again no aspersion on an an app thing, it's just this is like my galaxy brain thing.

Yeah. Let's not. Remember the dog Selena Selena gives chocolate to the dog that's the mare and it dies. So you're having espresso, the bitterest drink. I think it's kind of like uh the the flu, I think. I I um hadn't seen the article that you s th that we referenced in the after show last week, and uh I got really excited because a constant pain point Yeah. Oh co co-pilot? Below that is going to be the content of the div called foo. I I think the E can I also say I like the E also because I mean if you're gonna be like I think Claude Rains, the actor, the guy who played the invisible man. I thought Tommy's cancer was made up just for the first time. Okay. And at least in my head, because I I like to give this angle on, I'd like to hear your angle.

That's exactly what I was thinking. You know how like you can get into look at Google Docs, you get into Google Sheets, and like it there is obviously a very heavy But like, yeah, no, but like I've gotten I want to get faster at Spotlight and the Finder, but I agree with you, Spotlight has gotten really good. Right? So I'm now one thing I did was I went in and I said to ChatGPT, here's the thing I want to do, and I explained what I wanted to do. Uh Hampton Fansher, you can stop me in any time. Like everything's always clean. And he was just he would and you know, now they're of course they're dear pals, but he was just merciless with her. I'm I I gotta get past this. I've heated the needle, I've pressed I've pressed it, I've pressed it into the carbuncle, and now I'm I'm gently I'm gently pushing.

This is interesting. But I I I want to uh pretend that I'm like looking out the window and warming my hands with a little mug. I had noticed a I forget where link to something probably I think on the verge somehow, but I noticed two different articles in a short period of time about And um this it's like I talked to her just I talked to her on Mastodon a while back, but like I just really admire I like that it's a very one of those But uh the WGET or the or eventually then it used a lot of not said a lot of awk to like do the stuff that I needed. Uh wait, I'm sorry. I f I gotta go look up this guy. I'm created a project called Reconcilable Differences and I threw a bunch of stuff into it. It's like you can go get this site, Site Sucker.

That's the end. And instead I got to manage it rather than shovel it. But I thought we were doing this technology. Stop talking. I think there have been times there's no desire to have a sibling. Guys, guys, listen, listen. Oh sorry, hi everybody. Root talk is the one that always stuck with me. I had I made iced coffee this morning in that manner. And uh two shots of espresso do does that for me. I mean if I have enough it's a little bit more than a little bit. But then it gave me uh it also gave me like I said, well can you put this all into like one, you know, give it to me in pigs and bunnies. There's a lot of good shit out there in Dallas Reigns. All dogs are boys. Do you know what it is?

Because, you know, the flu is pretty contagious. In that instance, oh my goodness. Yes, yes. I I don't know what I've done. Which is great to discover right after your plane has taken off. I'm much more likely because sometimes, you know, getting it to and getting ChatGPT to integrate with Google is Like they both get to be okay and they get to not screw with each other. See also email. I am not overly concerned with whether and when we talked about something before, but it's very handy to know. Do you not know me? Hi, Alex. You know like that Jewish meal where you have the bitter herbs, you sit around and have cedar? Alright, three. What are we? Isn't it terrible how how talented and wonderfully?

But she went to the ER, or as you say, the E D. Um so it is asking you what you want to use it for and I'm like, all right, so this feels like Is the squick from uh privacy and integrity things or wh where did your squick about that come from? And then you can The four dummies, what that mean? If you decide it's more about like, I want to learn app development. But anyway, the point is all that data in there is really effective. Um but boy is he ever I've seen so many LA newscasters and weather people in the last week because I've been, you know, shotgunning fire coverage. Now if if I were gonna treat you more like a little brother, y wait now hang on. Oh, your fri uh your your new your new ol your old new friend?

I thought as an adult I would enjoy beer. And so that gives you I won't go crazy about it. Here uh but and and here's an I think another layer to that Like you get copilot in VS Code, but copilot is their overall like Yes. Matthew is my spouse. It's all yeah, we all just we pop in this same little bullshit Starbucks uh French dark dark French I don't care. Bucket. Like I have not, it's been years knock on wood since I've had a problem with sync on any of that stuff. For however many years I've been obsessed with spreadsheets. Doesn't it? Maybe this would be better for the after show, but oh here's real quick. Woo! No. That's it! Because you're not really you're not making a binary, right? Now, and like an example of this, and this is one that I see a lot of people using in their public datum.

But like any dated and timed piece of information in my life, I I is I absolutely want to be able to call all of that We haven't talked for two weeks. That's incredible. Like uh d how gender is a construct, I believe that most relationship I I wish. So you know it's it's also hopes that you get time between when you were all living together and now that you're not all living together. But the m way that I interact w with it in in terms of put uh data input is Kind of like you. I'll speed this up. When you can have all of your data, but will play around in something that you're unfamiliar with. Are we just saying words now? Nope, it's the whole thing. Like I was the smart one and the weirdo. Um did you um did you oh yeah, so anyway to answer your to to to your uh to answer your query.

And then you're like, huh, you got the universal American license on self-effacement. Like that's your whole bit. Yeah, and stay on horse. Like this the kind of thing where like you want to see, yeah. I think it's really beneficial when you have any kind of an experience, including using an app or a service, that And it made me something really cool. And one of my jobs on that show is to create uh to do the show notes, by which I mean to, in the end, yes, write up the description for the show, but that also means trying to figure out And believe it or not, D script does a pretty good job with that, as does ChatGPT. Blah, blah, blah. Yes. I wanted it to be clean, but now I'm realize Ben Montench, uh the guy who played keyboards for the first time.

It's it's Tim Robinson and uh uh Richard Split. So um but this this one where he's like he keeps talking about Granny Splat. I have a um I have a power broker challenge coin. Oh yeah, exactly. Uh in my right hand over here I got all the shit I care about. I am leaning into no no I am leaning into the bit. Pretty much. I I had two uh shots of espresso because it is known, as you say. Come on, St. But I I've got to get out of s the business of saying I'm going to do show notes because it's just not going to work out time-wise. I mean basically every s every piece of data in my life that has a timestamp You know what, Dougie, fine. Pete seat. I apologize. It sickens me. It but it is a bit. It's not that interesting.

And um and what else did I get? Rebecca Owen, friend of the show. Oh boy. I don't want a physical inbox. Like all people who are like were like real newscasters that then were on comedy shows. He's got an augmented arrow. Oof. And there's one and it's like I'm trying to like clue them. Can I talk about something outside the band? And like she couldn't swallow. Yeah. Yeah, airline. Yeah, yeah. And if it can even if it can't, it'll give you say, okay, there's three ways we could do that. Yeah, I know she's an avid listener. But there was a Smokey the Bear, uh like little doll. Walk me through that. It wasn't great, but this is this is before the cloud, this is before even like I'm I'm wow I've I've I've tried to do too much this morning and then my brain's a little stupid.

And he I made Matt watch something yesterday. Guy, I think it might be English. Because we're basically the same age because he is thirty and I'm thirty-four, so it's not a good thing. Um I can still feel the TV still hot. Syndrome. He gets home from school and he he makes he gets makes a big uh big ass instant espresso, puts in some milk, and then he's got one of those little things Um is there anything embarrassing here? If you wanted your context to be on your palm and on your Mac, you had to sync it regularly. Because I really wanted it in both places. And here's the thing, back to part three, is if it hadn't worked, I would walk away. Oh my god! What w no wait! I mean I I it it's one of those shows where it's so old that even on Nick at Night But it's just something like uh yeah, Gram Grammy Split had uh a rare disorder called Lindrome syndrome that caused her to rhyme everything and now I'm realizing she just made that up.

It's cause it sounds like m Madeline and her siblings, there was like um forty-five of them, correct? It is. It's a B to B if immediately. But you super do it's like it's like getting into like um Like w you know, where it really does feel like you're kind of like you're seeing what the app will be like. I'm like, all right, I I see how this would be extremely useful, but I'm not sure. If you know you're not going to respond to an email, why are you still feeling bad about it? I'm gonna hit the bell with my challenge coin. I apologize. I I'm uh well it his name is Um the there can only be one. Um and that actually does you're bringing up something that might key into one of my tech things. Like, you know what I mean?

Well, here's how we can help you with that. I think I got too cute with taking out I didn't want to see the. It was a simple one, kind of uh going back to not have natural It gave it all to me. There's that third reason of sometimes I learn I shouldn't be doing this at all. I learned a lot about the Santa Ana wins this past week and oh my gosh, what a fascinating phenomenon. Whitney Wilde, Christian Dingus, Happy Felsh, Bobby D. Pimple Popper type thing. Let me open the app. What I was able as an an amateur, I can go in and with Chatty G, I'll discover pretty quickly like w w It's as if I am uh not touching grass, but you know, engaging with the outside world. I go, oh I've been write that down.

Also, all all dogs have ADHD and uh all all cats are autistic. Jude. What's the thing? I think it's so beneficial when you can use something And both both of those have been, I feel like, around long enough that I'm not And it was easy, very easy to do that. The ability to do stuff like that, which goes all the way back to whatever two years ago when I was saying like now add a column for whether they were in a Harry Potter movie, that kind of thing. Just like knowing that as a concept. Long story short, so I started doing this thing with our titles, and then I I can't I keep getting frustrated because Here's five. You know what I mean? John Beard is the name of the newscaster on Arrested Development, who was also an LA newscaster.

Like one of those old time I'm having a friend over for coffee commercials. This is my bucket. And there was so when you had your poem, you put it on this dock. But I but but while I was doing this, what I was realizing is like I like the fact that all my data and this is again, this is another thing where I've been incepted uh by Chat GPT because Which I pretend to understand, but I I don't. Well he is the singer of the Smiths, Alex. But I didn't get sick. Technology. It you can get your data in and out pretty like relatively com or between find my or whatever the Mac thing, me. I made an app for celebrity heights because I have that data set. And like yeah, I I would I'm at the Am I oh mm. I was I was good.

Oh my gosh, you are full of energy this week, aren't you? Steven who's the reason we give so much money to St. Well like if 'cause yeah, I mean say what you will, but Google's got a pretty seems to have a pretty good handle on But like I do you know what I mean? I gave it two prompts about how to format it and it was done. That was a Roman. Oh, like repeat, but with a Pete. I hear I mean not just it's not just you, but you hear just hear this about these Catholics with oh and maybe maybe Mulaney to a sen to a to a degree. Uh I wrote down stuff on note cards, I wrote down stuff on paper. Like I I want to be one of those people who walks around the house with a little warm mug and um Yes. So here's my go upon your rant.

Cause like there was a time not even all that long ago. Um but like you could there was a time like when I was the 43 Folders guy where I was forever testing different apps for calendars and contacts. Wanna see some photos of me? I uh the you know uh people love it when people in their late fifties talk about health. But you could tell the the approach that if I could say, it seems to me the approach that they have taken is very much, hey Like there's a whole bunch of API shit where you can like have a world of different things and Google Sheets talk to each other. Remember the bike log project? It's bananas to think about. Like it was a bit that like also that like ah doing Python now. Like, oh, what's this project about?

Oh, that's Fahrenheit. And his uh it's spelled uh Reigns with an E. Cause he'll be in front of what I imagine is a green screen, right? And I just can't help but notice that the eighties photographs are very different. Hampton Fanscher, Dexter Fletcher, Learned Hand. How did you find it? Well like I remember when it was one point why I was so happy I actually got this one. Er um guys girls and please, please, everyone, please know. But no, there's there's yeah, no, I'm I'm a recent concern like of a we visited for a while. I got a shirt. And that date dated, I don't mean dated as in like it's something You know, and people have different kinds of, you know, like bits about wind or No, no, no.

Oh man. Oh you harassed? Oh, that would be funny. Do you think that is that part of the liturgy? It's not that interesting. He should be up there with Perd Hapley and Mort Krim. His name's Pete C. That can't be real. You're nuts. Can I correct myself? It made me at first it made me give me all the directions for a project to do what I wanted in um And the way that like you can throw all of the markdown stuff I'll do more. I'm fine. And so my question to you would be what's the difference between a little brother and a little sister? It's a girl little girl in their commercials who is so cute. But what was your take on and what were you hoping to do with it? That's so interesting. Um but the I I don't know, when it's it's So Oh god.

What is that? It's like I think he finished it probably ten years ago. I thought you were referring I thought it was like the four tempers or the four seasons. Oh yeah yeah he not only is he amazing but he's gone straight onto my list of of people with real real good real names You step in and out and you're moving through and you do this kind of like sideways thing and you you know how to position your body to look Thank you for the service you've provided us. Uh well, I'm I'm not finding any of this guy. Oh, so it's i it l ha so have you like popped the the bubble or or like No.

Maybe I'm getting money for this. So the thing on the Glyde. I'd have to start over, I'd have to go to a backup. What I really want is a way to just build an interface that turns into a phone app, but keeps all of my stuff exactly where it was before. And you're absolutely nailing it. I I am the one who decides which inboxes are allowed in my life. No, but that's that's a that's a good spread babe. You got Alice, you know, she's got a she's got a little door that goes into her facility. I have uh not hmm I've destroyed some people emotionally but yes uh the I heard she can get pretty mean is what I heard Yes. You talk about suboptimal. More more so than, you know, Johnny Backyard Developer. And that's that's where I got a little hung up.

And in my case, I say usually if you're saying something as simple as give me all of these titles in chronological order, it does a pretty good job. Might have ended up being the awk came a little later. Uh I am fine. So he can go like swoosh, it comes down here and it goes through the canyons. He's leveraging the shit out of that arrow. But I've never wanted a brother and sister more than I wanted, say that. Billy Billy has discovered Cafe Bustello, which I can't believe still exists. The uh two apps I've I've already mentioned here uh are good examples of this. Her name was Topi Smelly and I've always remembered. Um stay on horse. No, that's all I got. I I don't know what to do with 250 HTML files, but aha, this thing sure can help me with it.

Kind of surprised he doesn't have you know just you c come in one day and he's just finishing up installing like nine cameras in the house. Okay. And that's I'm Sam. And so like immediately I'm like, hmm, I'm not so sure. And having that data set now, uh, along with How are you? Evans. Technology. Um, I think I ended up doing um Wget. And it'll do that. Dallas Reigns is amazing. You are good. It's the weirdest thing. Oh I got some good bookmarks too. Just spending money on cancer and not. Ready? Yeah. Oh shit. And it made me realize kind of what I really want. And accordingly, guess what? Is that alright? It was like really, really bad. Oh god. Yes, this is these are the two uh this this is the Saint Jude Relay for Saint Jude challenge coins from twenty uh uh You're going to be fashioning an interface that lets you interact with your data the way you want, create, add new data, stuff like that. I'm like, this is too much and um also it is really yes, it's pretty easy to like put together, but also if this goes away it's not even so much I love that ability to now these days create a project where I put um all of my health data and it'll correlate the shit out of whatever I want and like No You're out of that business, bitch. Which is a terrific song by the Smiths. Because we're in the amazing Nevada But like but like there were times where I would try and do a f Inside of Glide, you say start from template.

And I said, okay, well now add another column for price. Um but the but but but like what I was able to do, long story short, is this whole journey was assisted. I think uh I think all cats have ill intent, but not all act on them all the time. Um but okay. I hate saying that. And the idea is there's like a web service of some kind where you go out But like it's an open act to get it your data quote in and out, right? I wanted it on my Mac because that's where I did a bunch of stuff, but I absolutely wanted it also in Gmail because that's where I did all my mail. Yeah. I don't have anything good. How how do I c like I I know how to I know of cat, but like what's the way f what is w what I want you to do is take all of these different files.

Oh my god! I oh yeah, I spent and I still I was the weirdo because I liked school and because I didn't date anybody Yep. I uh guess so uh So you can have attributes associated with items. But that that I've been using that for years and I still love it. Like, you know. So you could very much make fun of me today for That ain't an iOS app. So that left hand that does all the shoveling is very important. A very heavy point. Let me ask you a question. The bit being that now that now uh You know? Is that true? Yes. Sorry, sorry, har hard on your tummy or hard on your brain or other? I don't think so. You could adapt an inventory list. Yeah, but like you know what I mean? Well it it does something just to be clear.

The like, 'cause I'm a ding a ling and I'm like Well for what? Evans Evans. Yeah. I was like, hey, you wanna watch you wanna watch the next Bob's burgers? Kind of like it coffee is my like I might I apologize because I might be confusing. Delightful. Can I can I do another quick rant? You know how to drink a glass of water. Oh the if you like the data, but the the stuff. Stop worrying whether you're good. So it was almost though like Like you guys you gotta really watch 'cause w his because Richard Splett's lines go by so fast, but each one is so magical. Exactly. And that's what led me to not apply it. But like my experience especially with spreadsheets uh over the years, like you really get it in your bones, like how the There even just This project is about is this I heard this thing on Do by Friday.

It should be a funny or or unique thing that someone said. Okay, well, here's the RSS feed. I've never tried this. And but one of the things the guy did at the at the top was say, like, look, I'm not a scientist, but I've looked into this a little bit. Oh my god. I don't know how what made me say this, but I said to you Yes. Yeah. So I may I may not have noticed the influencer stuff. But you can, but I it's I still for m at least, I just I don't know, it was At least like I will figure out what So I do, I'm comfortable in spreadsheets. But dated in the sense of like even two years ago, three years ago, this might have seemed pretty cool to me in a way that I would Or if if you want like the four dummies That's all over here in my right hand.

I d I don't have kids. But go ahead. Oh, really? Really. I I was a little bonkers and they just saw me as like Uh well yeah, but in the the the again, like there's a It's like politics, religion. See, I uh I still if Like a quick acting caffeine. Uh I don't care. I don't know if this is my first challenge coin. And I I was like, I was thinking, you know, most of them are like I think it's something where you're like, I need a way, but like all of their templates, and there are many, many templates. So I struggled to find this. Scrambling, scrobbling, scrobbling. Oh, I'm holding my hands up in the air, like like the scales of liberty. Yes, no, I apologize. I th I think it makes it kinda extra fun.

Really any kind of toy like diversion can be a delight. Is is is Cancer Boy younger than you? Neither did Billy. I uh it's see, I don't I don't know if this is My angle was, geez Luis, I've got these spreadsheets especially. Because there's a lot of stuff where like through whatever 20, 30, however many years, I've been using spreadsheets Oh y oh yeah. Yeah, so in that instance I I forget. I am wonderful. Uh credit credit to Susan Roderick. Oh, there's several. Uh yeah. How does that work? All of my power broker merch arrived. You get a little JavaScript style like pop-up. It's a b but like it's an I say aspiring because I don't Yeah, app uh That might be the one I'm thinking of that has all the enterprisey stuff.

I think they eventually had to pull Smokey. This is not a mean stop. It wasn't even the there wasn't even Um went to the emergency room, uh urgent care, emergent dogs. This may come up in the after show when we talk about quote tasks and reminders in in ChatGPT. And you seem more fearless about jumping in. I can't hang anything. Pete Seat. Oh man, I can't even talk I won't talk about it anymore. Mm-hmm. Jude. Yes. And and she's really set it up to fit some use cases that a like a real person would want. I mean I haven't tried it with numbers, but I imagine it could do that with numbers. But how do I do that? I want to eventually get all the transcripts of every episode into the show. Now I want to just clarify from Pete like Pete C as in one word or Pete C The the the problem see that's see this is the this is we're we're we're trying to So anytime I want to add something to datum, it's as easy as burden control Oh on IOS on a screen grip.

And it's this app it's Oh, do you know her? But so I need like a location library to do that, all understandable stuff. Right. I said, I want you to go through all of these files. Um cat's just an easy way like cat can mean lots of different things, but cat I think, you know, cat often means just show this to me. That's you two weeks from now So then yeah, we're going to hate Thomas Murphy. Oh yeah, they scare me. If I you're saying that if if I confess to having that feeling. I'll send this to you. Oh yeah, Glide. That's that's it's in my parlance that that's why I keep saying or well three times a year say something like I don't want another inbox Are you ready? Take that as a yes. They call him out and you know the like I I think is I don't watch That was an actress.

That's Poppy Smelly! It's just I don't know, the same thing. Um so was it determined that we want to talk about technology on the after show? Which, you know, we don't want everyone to be like that, but I said I sent you that screen grab, but you go to Glide Apps or whatever it's called, you go there and it becomes I got stuff to say about it. Have four different apps for that? That is absolutely the dream for me. Okay. Yeah. It's pretty fast to whip that kind of thing together. I got under my bucket. And I and I have a rant about this. And few things are more intolerable than having different sets of data in different places and not knowing what state they're in. Why am I saying this? So like for example, off the dome.

Uh Trip Mickle, everybody knows Trip Mickle. I've never had a desire to be have a sibling that is any greater than my desire to have, say, a given stuffed animal. The yeah, your old old friend. h files and then this and the that and the this. It's all just my Gmail calendar stuff. And like starting with building an app and then filling it in with stuff has no appeal to me. Cause he does this thing. But um did you want to dip back into that? Um like uh a So Tommy was a little dick because th all of my siblings though, they uh because I uh by the time uh l And the thing is I know she ain't faking, or unless she's double faking and saying the doctor Um Um I mean I had caffeine. Um and then you're like, well, you know, I bought SiteSuck.

And that's really exciting to me. If I lived in LA I would love this where he wants to show you the direction of the wind People now say plush. I am Sam. I think it's so I think it's when he's gonna so I think it's when the way he does it is so good. Like think about like Quicksilver if I finally stopped using Quicksilver and it's it's kill it it it com or whatever, trying to get my synced contacts from there to work with my synced contacts from Gmail. It's fine, because we're just not there yet. Yes. Are you still the editor? Yeah, yeah, yeah. And that's all it's it both of these great. I made it what was my other app I made? Mm-hmm. Well, because you're If I want to find the And you Or Oh, and the Sun Tan.

Um there's some good YouTube videos about the history of Brady Bunch media. Who's really good at school and has absolutely no interest in dating anyone. He's like, I don't know what to make of this. So the the my sister in law that you've heard me talk. Oh like a lady in a commercial. The um above our chat I want to help you slowly squeeze out whatever stuff. Oh, but and and Spotlight has gotten really It was able to pull all that stuff in, figure out what it was, and I was able to say, I want you to turn this into a table where the columns are knife That's all my data. Oh no. What? Um but like what is it he says I can't do it anywhere like him. Same I I was hoping to just have an easier way to add data.

What's the guy's name? It does not Well, that's an empty column. Um and it did a pretty good job at doing the kinds of things I want, which just in a large pattern Well the transcript stuff is still a ways off Did it flawlessly But the the first reason of is it's good at a lot of stuff I need help with. What I really would want to say is I want one HTML styled HTML document that like It's not repeat, it's Pete short for Pete. It was my favorite thing. But somet I'm like When are you going to use it? Please. It's really satisfying when it has picked out the same titles that Um so This is Dubai Friday, a weekly challenge podcast with Alex Cox and Merlin Mann. Like I'm I'm not very exciting. But the one where where he's like, you know, Leonard Bernstein And we're into the part where Jonah's Jonah's running for Congress.

Mm-hmm. Oh yeah, so now let me let me start bitching. This is not a thing, but what I really want how's that phrase we used to use middleware? Could you pull all of that down? Oh, oh yes. And I would encourage you to just do a quick Google on him because you're gonna grok a lot about what makes this guy amazing. Vincent Dixie. Um I think But I thought I was sick. I it's really listen to this. Yeah. Are you an influencer? Well let's go back let's go back all the way to the days of being on a palm, for example, where, you know Oh yes, yes. You know, um learn to code. But here's what I have is I have 251. Yes, yes, I do watch it. You know what Delaware is, but you don't know how to have a drinking problem.

That's a good Yeah, or or even just a Folgers um Like Folgers crystals. It's easier and I think um opens up you Um so but in my instance, like it's so great to very quickly I didn't have to go and learn X code. I like like when someone says, oh, because of the l lake effect, I'm like, yes. Richard Split. And I was like, she's sick. Now in fairness, here is Just forget But it feels like I should be able to point it to relay. It is actually 20 degrees, feels like 10 degrees. I would like to see somebody cast Dallas Reigns. Salisbury. Oh yes, of course. It's like that movie. Brought to you by Carl's Jr. It's the first challenge coin I've cared about. Let me I don't know if it'll even show me what I had said to create it.

It downloaded all of those. That that this is the thing. I know but you're excited. Yeah. It's already weird to in some ways it is still weird to me to be doing spreadsheets. I didn't even I didn't even see that much project management stuff. Okay, yeah. Do you want a basic template and AI generated or blank? Over half of the shit in the world that comes along, you don't have to do. And I can't tell you how often I just keep dumbing down and dumbing down and dumb not not dumb, but simplifying what it is that I want. Yes, exact exactly. Yeah. But the idea is and okay, so here's the thing. If you wanted to add notes, that would be awesome. But long story short, like if you wanted your contacts That would have taken me No, but I'm I'm very, very well.

I think I feel like see the thing is I have watched a lot of TV. Like I love Delta so much. So it helps if they've done a lot of the work. The dock would go with the serial cable. Like I mean, again, separate podcasts, but like You know, it seems like almost every weather person in my life anyway, has like a bit. But anyhow, I feel like based on what I've seen, like You're not letting me ask my controversial question. Um but you follow like it's is I and I'm not saying boohoo like Ronald's got a tough job. I always said stuffed animal. I wanted to get all of the information out of me and I kept pursuing and pushing and squeezing It's the cutest little girl. I was talking earlier about datum D A Y T U M.

Now here's the thing: Google Sheets, that's highly But but having, you know, uh Really? Um I'm clicking. Yeah, yeah, it was the extra stooge. Yeah, right. Yes. He is very um he has strong pigmentation. Like this is known. Underpaid people who don't get sick. Now No, it's not. Like and we talked about so much, but like all that health data, all that sort of ambient Okay. The stuff being shoveled over here in my right hand, that's what makes my life worth living. That's good. And he goes, I'll take another SAT practice test. You don't want just revivarin or something. I Uh eating all my seed corn. You kinda had to s decide, you know, what's that phrase Steve or Tim use, the cloud is the truth or whatever.

I'm gonna go make an app. You know, um whether that's Elizabeth DeBicke's height or or foods that John has a strong opinion about. It's okay. The point is I thought I was sick. Yeah, yeah, I don't like them at all. And now I hardly get anything in there. Are they in the right order? I hate the word creamy too. The stuff I saw was all So like I of course I'm always looking for ways to have chat. Say something funny. And um It's like that movie Sean Penn was in. Yeah I postulated that with a friend of yours recently. I think they just liked intercourse. He's the guy that does the year and review. But that's a fairly new development. Like it just it makes sense to my brain. And the answer is now for me, really.

Uh I'm very well. He looks kind of like Barry Manilo in this autographed photo that he's endorsed Focus Solomon. Yeah. Do you like the episode coming up before we're done recording? He would do like pull up the worst pranks on her. I'm gonna be sad when he dies, but I'll be glad to get my hands on that handle. Yeah, I got w we got one of those little pod dinguses. And I I think it might be some sort of like uh I I don't know, like you're Do you see the way Dallas uses his hips? But no, but I mean I wouldn't trade Google Sheets for the world. Well I went and I went to my um Amazon And maybe it isn't it's not important enough for me to blow half a day on Twenty four something occurred to me yesterday I was getting some uh some food out of the refrigerator and it was occurring to me that I've kind of been And and and ev you know, in this instance, I that's a silly example, but And like the another problem related, I don't want to catastrophize, but a pr project like the kind we're talking about.

That is not a deeply straightforward thing to do on any website. I uh King Vidor, he was a director. But Alex and I are referring to a very funny episode of uh This American Life. What is this? But similar thing here. It goes in and looks all that up and populates. It totally spit the whole thing out. It's it's one of those days where I'm fine with it. Oh I'm sorry. Don't make sure that's what I'm saying. So I get to be the one now Yeah, Ben Montench. Oh, of course. This is a do you want to also a hey? Right, right. Um what is the if I could ask, what is the temperature there if you know It's very exciting. We'll do them all. Um yeah, it's been a couple weeks and I'll tell you why. I made another one for well what I tried to make in Glide.

You know, you don't think about, you know, uh the technology, it's all around us. Notes will not on your phone or your Mac will not But She comes out Did you watch the Pretty Bunch as a child? It has to be literal, two to six words, no more than forty-seven characters. And then he can go turn, turn, turn. So I am very much like a Most people get some kind of an intereganum that gives them a little bit of distance, which sometimes You know, one time I saw a commercial with uh Stephen and Mary in it. Now Glyde, Glyde, I don't care what it's called You can just whip that up in like three minutes. But it's like are you are you trying are you? It's like, well, if I go into this and I think that this project is gonna be let's go create an app.

Totally cool. Over here I've got well in my right hand I didn't realize that was I thought that was a bit that we liked. In that if I didn't get the stuffed animal I wanted it would pass. I you know Smokey the Bear or as you say Smokey Bear? And it's really well done. You don't watch TV, so you probably don't know Delta. I I And it gave me several different ways to make it. Like, yep, yep, yep. But We had we had numerous uh mutual delays last week. And I well, first of all, that's the challenge. Th It's really heavy. And I think it can do stuff like add rows and things like that, I believe. But like But first, it also the one thing maybe that it's better at than almost anything Channing Frampton, terrific name.

I just have to go to the finder. Delicious library. Let alone the little shuck and jive shit I do along the way, like Can I read you my entire list of people with good real n real real names? Yeah. Instant espresso that people like me used to drink in college. But sorry folks, for a while we just wanna like I really just want to get the thing out. You it does have an opinion about how it's built. Or don't you go to Gmail and look for the ticket? Yeah, your environment is white Is that the idea? Yeah. Did you ever watch Detroiters? Um but but he also had It could be something as not very intelligent as if this then that I'll jump down a little bit. Um I am Sam. You want something that's really gonna Cafe Bostello, instant espresso, living the dream.

So the actually let me see, uh yeah, oh Yes. And honestly, just to even be at the point where that's possible. Like I'm I would be honored if you all got you know um I don't like I don't like thinking about it, but I did it. I love the idea of being able to make your own quote unquote app, but AI generated. If you can't conceivably figure out why I would want that, that's okay. Mm-hmm. Oh no, no, I don't wanna have to cut I don't wanna have to cut it in. See now you're way ahead of me on this one because I've never had either. But what are some ways that uh Tommy would fuck with you when you were little? Are Catholics meaner? But the time John's father, the lawyer, so many great I'll see if And I I I thought I was sick But like she she went to that fm slash rd.

But I'm also putting alcohol on it. Remember last week when I was done done editing it before we were done recording, remember? But I but I digress. Billy and I are absolutely gonna s because Billy's on Muni every day. Yeah. My sister in law is That that you know what I mean, that now kind of only exists Okay, so So it fills it in for you. I guess You know the word moist is great to talk about. I got that, I got a shirt, I got a a book tote. Steven. And even if you could automate that, it's still different. In each case, each time Here's the different kinds of memory, right? And I'm curious because it sounds like we might Uh I would say it's kind of similar to that. Um uh in the secret stooge.

Carol Surface. It was it was really about more like, at least in my impression of it. But I think I said something like I want to weigh um It's solid as hell. I'm not gonna look it up. But I don't know. I do that. I think it's when he's about to run for mayor. Yeah. Where I'd be like, Oh my god, their house is He was so mean to her. Eventually I even asked it if I could make it in JavaScript. So make sure that's a good thing. But the real beauty is that you have both No I think there's one woman that does that whole thing. Um it's it it's I think he he was one of the three people that worked on the Wizard of Oz. Yeah. But you hear about people from Do we agree Or do you like the episode what?

Carol Surface I'm sorry, never mind. Did you try this? No, don't create work for me. I think that most html files. I got a lot of good ones in here. Because last week Madeline had the flu. And like I think one reason maybe I don't want to think about it. We've t talked about you're And second Like that's what we're talking about here. Very well done The guy you kind of work for. I know I love my job Yes. Now toppy smelly. So I don't know. Oh wait, wait, wait. We got a curright. The mo the word moist doesn't bother me as much as it used to. I always like Smokey Bear. They're the two closest together. Welcome if this is your first time. Oh no, no, no, no. It And There's the Yeah. But if anybody Catholics seem alright with me.

Do you want to do that in the afternoon? Plus you Ventures, they did wipeout. Um but the um I did it to myself. What? And here's thirty We got a little skinny currig for like eight. Like, you know, decades of Yeah on iOS. But I like the way he looked, I like his hat. Fucking piece of shit. How? She's the youngest. Yeah. Do you want to do it later? Oh yes, yes. But um So let's Oh okay, okay. I'm You want raw transcript
