No timestamps yet for this episodeAnd when he says, hey, we're having tickets for a show, you can get it doesn't it's not all like fucking in-your-face podcast blasting. There's nothing bad about talking about this stuff if it's interesting. I had this thing that seems so simple and like sometimes, you know how it is where you get a good thread or a bad thread? There's some sparkling, there's that that wasn't a good one. Oh no. So I downloaded the movie but haven't watched it yet. Now uh imagine me hooking my right index finger under my collar and pulling it to the side like Rodney Dangerville. Yes. But he's like, you know, there's a show, da da da da. I I suppose. Doomer pilled? The smartphone. And Fred the Father, I think we actually I know for a fact, because I've been looking at our titles of episodes all day.
And then there was the weird part of it. Yes. What was the word he used? like how much pressure, how long, ramp up, what kind of mask you're using. I mean it's human readable, but it's gobbledygook unless you know what an A A H I is and why you would or not want it. And now the whole table screwed up and like you find yourself at the wrong part of the stack to solve the problem. Uh oh, so let me get let me get to the point of this, which is the the thing I you know projects. Uh you know there's there's only a certain amount of durability to files you upload where it it I think understandably it kind of f if I upload a two gigabyte So I'm very interested to see when I put stuff in DBF. Well now you can just interact directly with another app on your Mac.
That kind of thing. Uh maybe I'm just So like here's here's um here's Chatty G. And I was just, it was driving me crazy. these things. of the dolls. uh like the i the uh certain types of drugs they're on uh are it's unclear which you i i i in theory like personality. Uh no. I'm not gonna mention friends on this show. Related to Valley of the Dolls. So stressful. Ask why I uh subject myself to the things I uh d do uh online, the things I look at. You know, I just I need a little tickle. He consumes a lot of content. I doesn't it doesn't help if I over-exaggerate it. that it is not a feed drop or c a collaboration or something that you promised your advertising. I suppose you you've I'm not gonna use any cute terminology.
I'm just I'm just disappointed in the way uh the pod save America men represent who or sorry uh uh I'm processing a nonstop 24-7 onslaught of information with a brain designed to eat berries in a cave. Huh. Then people would know what you're talking about. Alex Clark Cox and Merlin man. Said leave this one alone. I got so much going on right here. just be something where people feel put off if they don't like the whole idea or maybe they just don't like the way we talk about it. Especially LLM world right now. uh for several of the ways that I like to Did you see the thing Federico uh wrote about ChatGPT and Siri and all that? The way that I mainly use it and I suspect others don't, is to like munge a fuck ton of data and just to do stuff with stuff and like So I could say, do you find any correlations with season, time of year, weather, all these different kinds of things?
Or just on any sort of mobile. is that one from I forget which I knew this all yesterday. And I got one called that guy. versus the like, you know, what can actually happen. to do this like why is this so hard to do? And you can see like, so you're typing something, da-da-da-da-da-da-da. You can say, oh hey, like work with what I have in the terminal right now. find where this is. painting DD figures and 3D printing, like these weird like overlaps. Like not Mr. The wave length, wow, me. No one will buy my iMac Pro. S say these specific words and uh do this uh and go on this specific day uh which is when they have more stock in and that so far I don't what's it I can't get like I can't afford to do it so it's available.
Inficit word. And what's needed, so like it's cool that it does that. Ideally, titles are two to six words long, don't exceed 50 characters. It's not a tech headline. You know, the way you Google your own name and like see how you feel about it. Uh it it's wild because it feels like Notebook LM and Gemini are different models. Crap Judepachinko game as uh Yeah, no no no it it it is th the same model, but it's differ it must be weighted differently. And I said, so for episode number for 382, you derive that from P, class equals S C episode, da da da. Especially because of the colonialist connot connotations. And he's just a piece of shit. Randy the puppet, who looks very much like a very exaggerated puppet, Marionette, and he's a real jerk and he's really mean to Pee-wee and like bullies everybody in the playhouse.
and podcasting. She was an actress who may or may not have had affairs with Ethel Merman. Brady Spitz. Um, Anilie uh O'Hara, who is the um I don't even know what you called her, like the new D. You know, uh Patty likes to rock and roll, a hot dog makes her lose control. God. It says, which means that two women who were born before World War One are trying to write a movie that appeals to young people in 1967. Uh the yes. Yep, yep, yep, yep. Yeah, yeah, because the um w what's his name? He is the lawyer slash. Be up your alley. Oh is that totally cut out? Uh oblique, but these three women become addicted to drugs in various ways and they become addicted to different drugs. And then suddenly it's like, oh, okay.
Like the woman who, uh, P Patty Duke, addicted to uh uh speed and uh an alcoholic She, you know, uh doing the uppers and downers and ends up in a sanatorium along with the Wait, you know how you you know how it'd be great to cast in that role? She's very cool. her has taken her own life because Yeah, 'cause she has to have mastectomy, right? She is and like has to help him out. uh movie like it's just this weird sh schmorgesborg of extremely enjoyable uh not nonsense like Oh God, the director would do stuff like stand there, like stand there right next to the talent. If I knew uh one of the Jewish ones. Yeah, again, night in 1945. Uh uh I I won't say any more too much about the people in it, but like Patty Duke had been, like I say, she done theater and movies.
God, you gotta read up on her terrible parents, her parenty people. spoiler for you but one of the funniest bits so she's got these very long things about each one of the lead actresses and I want to come back to remind me to come back to the like they all need this role but at one point she goes like and there are men in the movie She's just getting passed around to do all these different jobs and like sh yes, she had a crisis and had to go I think I just made up that word. And how fucked up they are. Like they're interviewing Sharon Tate and and like basically asking her like how much of a bimbo are you? and like what a sweet, warm person she was. That's it's so similar in some ways to the way that we've treated women and other people, other minorities, for so long.
you know, printouts of articles. And I'm not I'm not trying to say this to like have you go get enraged and have a post about it. uh i it's just this amazing mirror of what uh uh the the the basically the downfall of Hollywood. And it's like, well, there's a lot you could probably don't understand about the ways that look, I'm sorry to make this too broad, but like just when people are like so pissy about like I make that joke sometime. Which I think is is I I feel deeply unfair because that's actually not what I'm trying to do. The point I'm trying to make is this is exactly to me illustrative within the time of my own lifetime that And then neuter the kind of language, hopefully non-hateful, but neuter the kind of language that enables us to talk about how it actually was without shying away.
We don't improve that today by bringing those words back, but we also need to be unflinching in the way that we look at cultural events. Alex, I am I'm I'm I'm being very energetic right now. This week's challenge? Proof of ownership. To be fair, I have twelve minutes left. But th this morning you texted me uh a number of interesting things. I sent you a podcast I think you'd like um by David Farrier called Flightless Bird. I think David Farrier is great. He I th I how does it start? soccer or foot football uniforms. a hell of a duck and the follow-up to it is somehow even more stressful. podcast Flightless Bird, which I do recommend, is that he he's he's a he's from New Zealand and he's trapped in America and basically it's it's him trying to figure out uh American culture.
Um, but he is my favorite and the one that Billy introduced me to the show with is he goes to he he really loves animals and like he has stuffed birds and he likes he just likes dealing with animals. And now you're in the emer in the emergency room and there's five figures on your account. No, no, I'm not concerned about it. Do you know the story about this? Zach Dax Shepherd would just kind of like and I got listen, I got nothing to say against Dax Shepherd in um Idiocracy. than my young person is. I I d uh it doesn't, but we uh I I wish we had less room to regress is my thing. Oh yes. morning. No, I this it's true. uh excuse me, an ex post is funny enough. I was trying to explain to Madeline.
that Robert Moses did what he said to his family, apparently, because nobody knows, to like turn everybody against his brother. Yes. mm mental breaks. I think I only got a partial of the article here. Because like you know there's that process of me with my health stuff. first came out and it was like I I I feel like it's getting way better at figuring out what this is and what I might want to do with it. really well with it, which is not gonna be that useful to that many people. At least for me. And then just style it like we would with the web. in settings, what you can do with files like you can in some models plus the API playground. Anyway, I just want to share that with you. Let me just make a new thread.
Cool and satisfying. my little mood charts. What is the difference? It's been it's been a great terminal on the phone on the phone. Tell John Syracuse. And I really, really enjoy it. me what's happening is everything all right um okay the dad the the for first me then dad they'll upload okay my emerson in mind okay drained of energy or vitality? So like, okay, so a neat feature in D script that I also have ported that I also use via Chat EG. I will be asking you to suggest titles for each episode based on the audio and the transcript. So I just can drop in a list of 20 recent titles, and it seems that really seems to help give the kinds of titles that you would want. It's not perfect, but like it's certainly better than me having to listen to a three-hour episode to try and remember where somebody said one thing.
uh uh fortnightly and I'm kind of trying to wrap up on reconcilable differences. And here are the titles that I've found. It's a good it was a great workflow and we I think we do it really well together. And then I'll do one or two runs at it in ChatGPT. Uh you gotta wash your preteen, holding space for Jeff Goldblum. Oh. I sort of manually traverse the DOM. You're having such a problem figuring out taking an HTML page and figuring out what the episode number is, what the title is and what the challenge was. And same as this pattern. So many boyfriends. But enough of that. Oh, sorry. No? You want to take a minute and watch it, it's like an hour and twenty minutes. Uh no, I uh literally did um in in in fact I um i I r I started it on Kindle and then realized that um Laverne Cox narrated the audiobook and then it was That's not true.
It's very dishyal. this entertainment lawyer's office and uh just kind of in passing she meets Neely the actress and then in another sort of uh random um uh uh video. Yeah, yeah. Stupid. But uh it's very liberally um how do you say illustrated but with video? flu fleshed out you actually understand why these women are yes the book did you want to mention the difference in years Like he basically would have these immaculately edited like montages of dialogue and music from movies and do a full drag performance lip-syncing to the like Neely who is damn it. uh something had happened in the movie and it it was just cut like the reel they forgot to put the next reel in. A child actor who had experienced a ton of trauma and went into a sanitarium and then started the movie right after they got out of the sanitarium And does a phenomenal performance?
They treat this director in particular and everybody involved in general. throughout the m the movie uh and in the the novel and it's her f uh it's her fault she is on drugs and it's her fault that she blows up at people after blame the women the yeah yeah the the the it God, there's you might have seen it in the uh the video essay, but there's a final scene where um uh uh Patty Duke is just having sort of another breakdown and uh has relapsed and is is drunk and just sobbing in the street um because uh an another spoiler, Sharon uh Tate Because he's told them exactly how long their part of the scene should take. illegal drugs for things, but they're kind of blithely trying to tie it in with the whole burgeoning psychedelic thing, like in that banana's dance sing scene.
have uh some gay stuff but also super just can't be queer coded, right? the book there are there are gay affair like openly i it's like do I stay with Daryl Zanach's not gonna like that. There are um I see you're saying the ones who run Hollywood, like Irving Thalberg. Well they they are unironically like hey, I I am not ashamed of being Jewish. It's just super y interesting because then you see the backlash to the pr proud Jewish Jewish men who are like Yeah, we uh fucking got these jobs because you you kicked us out of uh your out of your literally you know why bagels exist? And that's this is why I say start by just watch this casting one and you're gonna learn about a little bit about how you know how the book came around, but like The personal stories of each of these women is pretty fascinating.
Right? something that's not a thing, which is twin cousins. Shot for the time, I think quite sophisticated camera trick stuff of them being on camera together. It's like, well, yeah, let's get this as close as we can to the parent trap, but not get sued. Yes. They wouldn't even give a spin-off to Peyton Place because they're like, we've got to keep her working on this show. You got so every one of them is like, I really God, I hope I get it. You know, it it's it's so horrible what she's known for. adjacent like Manson, adjacent to the Beach Boys, and that he felt like Terry Mulcher had not been helping his career as a singer. had such an impact on these women's lives. Area, but like the beginning of the sort of new Hollywood period that would come to fuller fruition in the early seventies.
uh to grow as a person and especially an easy one, which is trying to say fewer hurtful things about people. What used to be normal for them, what used to be natural for them. You go back, you watch this video, you potentially watch this movie. You're gonna see that that's not just a way to say, well, gosh, I wish I could still call people retarded. I fine, live however you want. But like I feel like we don't learn from even recent history if we try to retroactively change what actually happened. Pfft, a respect for the people who made it through this stuff. That was a rant. Yeah. From from myself, but what's just the ones you know about. Because we're so used to as perhaps now more than at any time since maybe the Civil War, there's never been more incentive to get incredibly emotional about something that you don't really understand and say something horrible.
That's how you fix things. That had an impact on people because they were seen as being completely normal and completely under in a hegemonic way, completely underwriting and underscoring and promoting these really, really toxic ideas. to say the N-word uh like no no one stopping you go right ahead you fucking freaks but uh the like I I think about all of the self-loathing that came from the language that I used and perpetuated just not th Um, I don't know. energetic here. Oh, that's the problem. will tell a story and uh in trying to answer that question realizes that it's a compl he's not just asking the wrong question, but there's a completely different story to tell that runs with all that no okay that's actually I thank you.
No, it it's actually YouTube videos of uh men tickling one another. And he tries to feed a squirrel and it bites him and he has to go to the emergency room in America. All right. because there was no network or multiple network or associations blastered on the story about that. But my progeny. He he's like it's really he was on the armchair uh expert network, which is I guess did he leave? But I don't know. So why? Simmons. things publicly, not even privately, publicly said uh about trans people and it's just g it gets a little bit it gets a little bit much, uh honestly. We all we do. Let's go look. Theo Vaughn is The O Vaughn. And had Trump on, which was, I think, the most hum the most human Trump has ever seemed.
Both, both. for his uh late brother. You're not supposed to talk about text outside of text. Enthusiastic about the writing. functionality in D script that I will be um putting to the test today as the new editor of our program. Yeah. Did you like the name of the group that I made? Uh, I think I mentioned, uh I know I mentioned fairly recently, uh, well, B, yeah, we shouldn't talk about AI stuff all the time. Um I'd be very Be that as it may be that as it may, I um to be fair Hey, can we go back to that thing where I said, hey, stop trying to turn my life into a tech headline? have uh let me know and they'll enjoy the after show. Alright, fine, fine. I like the way he distinguished between a couple things um with AI and LLMs and why can't I find it?
the kinds of degenerative things that make image playground or Sora movies as against the kinds of And cut a long story short, I um was thinking, oh shit, I I've got a CPAP machine, and my CPAP machine has an SD card in it. get it to deal with all of my health data. that I remember to take out and download approximately twice a year. handy stuff like that. And that was neat. When you deal with the NIH, there's just so many tables and information and all this stuff. You know, because I mean as a as a former person who worked in an office, I know what it's like to like grab some stuff and want to change it. Like it does still drive me very crazy that there are some things that seem intuitive to me because I don't think like an LLM that still drives me crazy.
It's it's in the it's not you don't drag it, at least what I do you right-click and you say move to this folder or move to this project. It's it's you know not crazy. Data file in June and come back in December, I mean there's a pretty good chance it's gonna say, what are you talking about? That's great too. Have you found it useful in any way? That's whatever. Oh no, sorry. Uh, where did it go? Which is my terminal app of choice. putting together not uh actually not mm health information. Well, and and especially if it's like, okay, so uh I want to know, please actually compare these insurance plans. Yes. Yeah, uh well it's coupon. I need that for my train too and it drives me crazy. You'll see that when you click on that little thing, you tell it I want to work with this given app.
Alphrid, which I'll I have for check. No it's no no I know, but I just haven't. I just didn't have a reason to use it. Like, hmm, what about that thing? This is a very at least a very interesting use case. Yeah, no. Interesting. I I am not carrying water out. You know? Such a sensation. No, it's it's still the best selling uh paperback novel of all time. Um, according to her, until the Harry Bot Potter books came along, it was the you know, it was basically the Bible, the Quran, and Valley of the Dolls until the 1990s. Uh one and she comes from a um town in Massachusetts that I can't remember, but it's like the typical like waspy type uh instance of like, oh, we're we're ladies and we're hanging out.
Right? The main difference between the book and uh the novel is uh the the f uh, you know, not the main difference. Uh the older Xanok wanted to make a classic Hollywood movie full of glamour, and the other Xanok wanted to make one of the new kind of Bonnie and Clyde type movies that was very edgy, and they picked the worst elements from both. By two women in their fifties. Yes. Oh yeah, I uh I am going to watch this video. Oh no. No. who's a desperately articulate, charming guy. What? of the movie was was so upset about the ending, it was like, nope, not having my points in the movie Super know her. the scope of time is really unclear the it's that there's grave continuity problems. wouldn't be important except the consequences of their like the the consequences are different from the different kind of drugs.
I mean just what these people did. to be the oh shoot, who's the older actress who sings the tree song? Against the Patty Duke character. Which is why, you know, the book written by a woman, you s see uh her point of view and you there is that sense of trauma and uh I in the book it's or sorry, in the movie, it's uncl like it's literally unclear. Well there is a feeling of reality, honestly. You would think that these actresses, like all the reviews said, these actresses are terrible in this movie. Yeah, that is exactly how it feels uh yeah, yeah. uh the the whole i idea of these women coming into contact with with drugs and also they uh haven't ever really been around men before because they're all young women and for years Um let's see.
The uh it w yeah the it talks yeah yeah they they talk about he he's like oh man the the one thing I miss about it he talks to um uh wait wait wait I've got it um talks So again, I be kind rewind. In the 1960s, everyone hated women, especially Hollywood. Like she was cut off from she wasn't allowed to talk to other teenagers. Stand what a twin cousin is is that like Irish twin what a twin cousin? But like, you know what else that means? She was very she had a lot of problems. She needed to have some way of going from being known primarily from the Patty Duke show, but also as the little blind girl in that movie, right? To brain school. Right. Unbelievable. But she also had so much to her. And she has the most expressive eyes and the most amazing presentation.
She's uh I'm trying to find this woman's name behind Rewind. I mean, I I didn't realize just how much these women needed uh the the roles. And it's just you see this I I on several levels. that really need to be in that move. to a way that we use words, even the F-word. It was super normal that the way we used to behave, the way we used to talk to each other. You you can't just like play that off and say, well, actually, you know, they were very well cared for and often got to stay with their children. that we all just pass to each other like a bowl of nuts. about how much we uh used the word gay to just mean is stupid or just on the state. No no homo as as a you know joke j as a joke, but not a joke.
Oh, just well just that um podcast that uh honestly. Well that sounds like air guitar. Which is talking about you know w what he does, if you like promoting things he does, but he does it in like the nicest, most organic way. I do, but No no, I mean I'm talking about for my little world thing. I I know Jason Snow listens to this, but for once I think I did not learn about it from him. Are we talking about wait, are we are we talking who are we talking about right right now? Oh, I don't want you to mad. If that makes sense. Um but um but but what's nice is that that's a form of curation for me. Almost the entire time. Just ringing in his head. But he would deliberately go in and make sure not Fred, sorry.
Still does not have an answer to. you know, at least half a century removed because what could have happened. Um what are you deep into? Similar not quite but similar to the guitar solo I think Mr. after show. No, M wearing I am wearing fun sweater. things that are not gonna be the banner features to somebody who's coming in relatively new, but these really scratch an itch. And as soon as you say that, then people go, well, like, how do you verify that each thing is correct? It'd be kind of interesting to take my just as an experiment, right? I just I just threw it all at it fresh thread and say, you know, fine patterns. The projects I have right now are I just started one called DBF. Because it you get all the good stuff.
That you can now interact with directly in ChatGPT. Like for code-based things that I can't get to work in Chat GPT. I d I d I do. No, I'm not I'm not I'm not that I'm not that deep. I use prompt for man prompt rules. I n I know. is I say there's a great thing in the script, what they call Underlord, which is a little cute, but it's their little AI based thing. Um give us your fucking money, you go to there, you're clicking. Touchgrass or whatever. I did. Uh what's what's it saying? No, I mean parts, but I just playhouse named Randy. It was a delight. No, no. Yes, but uh only isn't a slightly uh I'm giving myself away here, slightly iconic, queer text in some ways, like very campy. Yeah, well that's how You didn't get to hear the interview with Lip Sinka.
Rr uh if you m mean the soy boy cuck, then yes. Anne works at a I know that this it sounds disjointed, but that's how it is in the novel as well. To her gay her gay husband. The scene about the woman dancing and talking about planting her tree. And then in the movie. I'm putting that carefully. Um, but oh Jesus. Raves Merlin man. That has, you know, it's a family family, including a daughter. I mean not that it may be No no no no no but I'm getting I it's it is no but it's important every single one of between eleven and seventeen every single one of those years means so much. And she shows like three shots in the men in the movie and then goes right on to Barbara Parkins or whatever. Um, she really needs this role.
She's famous, like, you know, famously unreliable. a certain amount of money for this that she really, really needed and she needed to like straighten up and fly right. The Mancy Manson family thought that was still um Doristay's son, what's his name, Melcher. Terry Melcher. But I noticed that the latest project form had 900,000 views in one day. civil rights or people are so pissy about uh what they call uh what's that terrible phrase people use? Well, I mean, like another way of saying identity politics is caring about anybody who's not a white man. There's there's a thing that I say a lot that I have to imagine frustrates people. White means something. that like you know kind of portrays these people a certain way.
That sounds, and I understand this, it sounds like I'm trying to excuse that, not even apologize for that, but it sounds like I'm trying to excuse the way people have acted and behaved in the past. You you oughtn't teach, if you're gonna have an American doll s American girl doll story and try to teach about slavery, you're gonna have to talk about slavery. This everything in this was completely normal to people. Well, and it says uh uh I uh we and you know, we uh my friends and I used to say uh uh And um I I I enjoyed Tickled and I like the other one. Yes, pro professional it is important to know that it's not just athletic wear. I thought as soon as you sent this to me when I saw the show art, I was immediately intrigued Oh, absolutely.
discourse, you know. Yeah. This guy, am I right? Uh uh uh pardon, I uh this is not professional. Sunday to start. Um 3 a. I um to be fair, I um am very excited about a lot of uh things in my little um The rest is let me just do it quickly then. You know, so you could you could start something called NIH grant. zero one at all because it'll confuse y you and it turns people off. You know what I mean? And so I can be doing all of my notes in text edit. To see an opportunity to link two things that interest me that are seemingly unrelated. All right, so so look at what I just sent you. Yes, in stock, but I can't get it. keeping tabs on it as in in in i as in in my uh operating Yeah. Back to the club.
This show are not in front of me. Um it's the advanced voice mode, which I always use. So so you're not just carrying the water. Yes! Very, very nobody. place there is uh a a quote says um my uh George Washington didn't s live at my house but he did drink out of the well which I thought was very funny I mean I was actively looking, you know, through all of their credits. You know, like the kind of thing you'd see on like in the background somewhere just to have a visual something. I don't know if he invented that, but he's the best known practitioner of that that I'm aware of. Just the the book obviously very, very bleak uh I mean like the m the movie too. But guess what? It's weird, but in the um in the in the novel, also her um uh hus husband, also in the movie, who has Huntingstons, um it's the young men have been at war or they've been at the end of the year.
Yes. Very um oh man. Maybe for some more than others, but in some ways for every female lead in this movie, this getting this movie represented a really big deal for their career. So she had to do a lot of stuff twice for four for four years. They they want to get Judy Garland. We have such misconceptions about other people. very well told story that just leaves you walking away feeling so frustrated about the I'm gonna put on my some kind of hat for a minute here. Well what's neat is she this this gal who makes this video, she's so good. Um the uh just like the the way this movie mirrors the and it doesn't talk about uh the uh how much Hollywood is flailing, but uh resent people telling me that things were different than the way they were in order to help them avoid something that's uncomfortable about what used to be normal because that's how you improve things.
Yeah. But um he did a Scientology movie too. And I would actually want to I would like to manicure some specific starting episodes. Like proactively. It's fascinating and the the it it makes me realize that I am the kind of person who loves gossip as long as it's You understand that joke? Can't stop the Skype jam, so there's no way to add a marker. Um I just made between podcasting trick about the history. No, it's okay. My all of my health records out of Apple Health.
