409. The First Toyota

What I said, I'm not sure what you're saying. I think his name's Stockton Rush, which is a tremendous name. I think my bell needs to be updated. But but it's that's the thing. I don't know what it is about a library that makes me want to poop. It's been extremely helpful. I'm very clear. And you know what's no fun? I don't need to wait for the compost bag to be full to take it out. I'm the guy who has to go down 30 steps and up 30 steps, and I would much rather have something to bring up from the garage when I take down the recycling. And why would you not try to find patterns for improvement? Instead fucking dumb it down, dumb it all the way the fuck down and find economies of scale in things that don't seem at all related.

If she's made her coffee, then she can go and there's a bright, beautiful new half gallon of half and half in there that she can pour right in. Great. Chop wood, carry water, right? And to hear a 57 or what however old damn man going on about how he's trying to think about how often to take out the trash sounds crazy. How can you just walk around all day being so sure about everything and being so right about everything and needing everybody to see like all the It's think about it's time. I said a copyburra and a chimp in a business suit and fedora are sitting at a table in a Paris Cafe, uh same cute style as the turtle. And I was like, okay, but like I can't tell what's supposed to be in front of the copy bar, and it kinda looks like the chimp has a coffee and another coffee.

There's some Zaslov program where like this guy goes out and does extreme stuff in extreme places and you know, he goes out and like goes to the craziest places in the world. It it's as if I'm a child just take a bathroom Alex? But for somebody who's wearing a batch, I used one example. It might be my I am I judging you I don't really care but I feel like I might be judging you you haven't peed since you haven't peed in five six six seven set five and one is six you haven't peed in six hours Uh usually around dinner time and then uh uh bedtime. You'd you'd squat in the field, no library for Alex. And then I realized that I don't need to take a shit that much. Uh well I mean what are those medical oh bed bedpans.

two other ones. Like and I I guess the obvious example would be people who log their food. And you go and look back and see a day where you didn't have any lunch, you could know that's probably because you forgot to log it, not because you forgot to eat, right? I don't have the I have the big icons on my phone, so I don't know what it is. threads I was looking for an ad Facebook group, Sally. BI was gonna come. Um, but then when a little P th the P thing pops up, I'm like, oh, okay, this is a consequence of not logging water. Claws. For no reason apart from it just takes time to collect information about the project before I do the project. I mean, again, nobody cares, but the people who I who I love will just dump fucking heavy, heavy old dead stinky food.

What I'm trying to say is my family is horrible, but I'm also trying to say you know, whatever it costs for a garbage bag. Like whatever it costs for a compost bag, whatever, whatever effort is required to go down up and down, down 30 steps and up 30 steps. Where I do it, how often I do it. And then to just, like I've been doing for those two months, keep capturing that list, but also gently incline myself toward noticing the patterns to those things. that's just being pulled from one place to another and instead develop the systems that help you go like, oh, you know, that's all sorted. You know, like everybody screws up the first pancake and it costs a lot to make the first Toyota title. Absolutely not.

And what I haven't done is try to turn that into a formal thing like with a calendar or like a to-do app because Well, and and then it also becomes, okay, if I'm getting a haircut, I know that when I come home I'm going to want to get uh take a shower because You don't get the overhead light. and like fits in an area that we have. And then goes back to bed. I would rather she wake up, A, we fucking got c coffee, B, it's in a place where she can get to it, and C This is entirely all entirely manageable and entirely low sticks. And as a I have a mind that races, I have to take care of that stuff. Happens often enough that it just makes me go like uh huh. I can almost promise, if you've never had problems with procrastination, by being a person who procrastinates, if you've never had a problem with that, I'll bet you dimes the donuts, you are pretty.

To quote, I think Dennis Miller, the most important thing in the world to me is my orgasm, and the least important thing in the world to me is yours. I am, however, chastened with the I'm chastened by the hardness of most adults. And like if I heavily engage with that, I am chopping wood and carrying water in a if I could say, arguably mindful way, I'm thinking about how I run my life, instead of being mad about how somebody else instead of being mad about like the life I don't have. who's prepared to just have the slings and arrows bounce off me. the a phrase I've said before, it's not just middle-aged men, although largely middle-aged men. I don't I'm not interested in that stuff. I don't find like, well, I found a way to turn my degree into a way to, you know, growth hack.

I know that it uh that's yin you just need to project not you, but most people just need to project that as like a freaky weird weakness onto other people as well. That's not the right sea creature. But did I send you the one with that weird worm that hangs out under the ground? Or it's it's something I think that is easier to relate to than the things that I am more passionate about. I know it's weird. And I'm trying to reach somebody who could hear this. 'Cause I couldn't do that. And I just I couldn't s I couldn't stop. First started developing as a way to try out different styles of visual of basically created, you know, again, LLM images are not a big thing for me. Uh when I say I can't draw, that means like I I just I not that I don't yes, I absolutely don't have the skill, but I also just don't have the perseverance to get good at it.

Like, I think there are probably three four total grand total images I have ever used for something apart from fucking around. You know, we've it's probably been a challenge line here seven times to draw something. Like a newspaper style comic. I've got some images I can show you and I um that was my version of this. Uh but you got it in ya. who have cobbled together um their own open source and open weight LLMs that like yeah, some of them are great for everything. uh Mr. Um it started as simple. I'm very interested in but I'm not good at or like I don't know how to do. You know, there's different kinds of formats and characters and eras and all this stuff. And it's the thread where I tell it, tell it all the things I want it to do.

Bra bravo. And it suggested a few. Um, there's one of them in a cockpit together. Yeah I saw that as a precious I thought you put it in the floor. Yeah, it was I was like, oh no, oh no, oh no. I feel great about this. Which has now also made me think I want to do a series on the animals you're supposed to draw from Boys' Life magazine to see if you should go to art school. Anyway, the second one after the turtle, the first one with Mr. I just had to think of something to put in a speech bubble. Uh stuff where I end up, you know, posting a lot of like log files, like the my Sonology stuff, where it'll be like, well, I don't have access to the log files and images anymore. I'll text it to you. No, I don't know.

But before, you know, uh I sure I'd get a headache and I'd get a little cranky and my mouth would be dry. with not drinking enough water, like I would ignore, you know, a lot of my notifications because when I said that I listened to my phone, that m that was a lie. Does that m make sense of like oh if I have not peed in a eight hours? It was it wasn't brown. Do you track how often you change your uh uh bird feeder like the the both the feed and whatever little pellets you uh uh if you c I I was talking about this, I think, with you, the P app, and saying one reason I liked it, I said this backwards, I think, but it's a pull rather than a push model.

Like when they deign to clean out their their food museum, it all gets dumped in this in the compost and I have to find a way to get forty pounds of compost in a very fragile bag out to the thing There's the kinds of things that are like, well, it'd be nice to get this done early, is one kind of a model. Conversely, I can't carry more than just recycling and trash. Now, we need half and half on a regular basis. Which wouldn't matter to most people probably because you you live in a house with a with a seven car garage and everything's on one floor and you have black people that do all the work for you. two weeks of Amazon boxes at the same time that I'm carrying down trash recycling and compost.

to understand these fundamental things. Because all that stuff where you put on a tie and go to a job interview, how often do you do that? And the second one cost about a grand. You know, this is kind of my deal. I'm not at that stage yet, but at least I told my brain that that's a very back burner thing to think about. And now I've talked about this for a long time and it probably doesn't seem very important, but these things matter to me to like develop develop I'm sorry to keep overusing that phrase, but you guys know what I mean. Uh uh you keep talking about these little walks around acting like being an adult is the easiest thing in the world. that is uh harder to find because it's very uh popular since it's the b the best flavor.

Like you know, like they like your family doesn't enjoy the d tra uh the trash thing. I'm not yelling at you. Um, I I don't think that's it could be ableist, I don't know. If you've never had procrastination as a as a p personality flaw, if you've never had poverty as a fact of life, if you've never had discrimination as something that happens to you, there's all kind I don't want to get super into it, but there's all kinds of things that I could have done, I could do that. And so anyway, I'm really talking about four different things probably. If you pay attention to chopping wood and carrying water, you can't help but be less of a dick about other things food with like extra crispy normal bread to the to uh make the right toast and s I isn't it doesn't it feel so good to be emotionally available to well but like no there's just a slightly larger point.

Wonderful. most people in my circle, which is a lot of computer things, but not the kind of computer things that mm th that you're supposed to like and that are a Well I'm trying to it's this might be different or it might just be a subtle distinction. If you're paying attention, the point of the wisdom project is this is all shit I had to learn. It's so difficult to send these threads, but where I could say things like, Okay, this time have the copy bar saying it instead of the chimp or whatever.

And so then I was like, what did I say? There's a power imbalance if the chimp can also talk. Oh I was trying to c y it's so why do you make it so hard to agree with you? And the chimp has kind of a mute expression further down. So I just kind of let the celery keep hanging out. of not knowing and I think it's going to be an interesting thing that gets people very involved in the franchise when this franchise that is so huge we've covered space travel we've gone back in time No, I'm upset. I well I still don't know how a cloaco works, so now I'm empathizing with the birds and uh because I wanted to ask what whole no in some ways.

Like wow like I'm most interested as you know I'm interested in the ambient It's worth it. That's I think about that with a lot of stuff. I maybe a more push model would be I take it out this often because it's easier to take out a third of a bag of disgusting wet compost than a full bag. Then once you get in the habit of doing something on the reg and you start noticing how that's going and you make iterative improvements to that process, The revolution of the just-in-time management, the Kanban system, and all the things that we got from Toyota. I want to get better at what I do and I want to become a better person as I do that. I'm very interested in making a painting, Luria Caravaggio painting or a John uh Singer Sargent painting or like those kinds of things fascinate me and a lot of times it's just blah blah. stuff to to make it happen, but I I think my original prompt from a million years ago or months ago was like there's a copybara and there's a chimp And so like, you know, I just I I I've wanted to write something for a sequential art format. What how so but I was also thinking then wouldn't it be funny slash ironic slash a good story if I started doing this stuff with ChatGPT but then was able to draw it myself? The turtle. And and he gets really stressed out about I'm if I'm seems like I'm trying to overoptimize, that's not really it. Because people think they need to seem more important, otherwise it's like, oh, what's the point of life? If uh I don't know a lot of folks don't think that chopping water chopping water, ooh, that's fun. that uh it makes me feel joy and I I can share that joy with someone else. Oh, the Kia is a game changer. Should be. just dicking around and I really like s I still like generating images. That's uh wearing like a men's suit. And because that was another big thing I had to figure out is should it be look at the one I just added a second ago. So I went through these all these whiz.

About these images, especially the three. a lot about it. Mmm, this is this is one of those times where I did open my mouth and I didn't know what to say. And his uh his telling of it is I think very compelling. Just the word carbon one thing that's not related to the challenge, but is follow-up from another show you've done. No, I did I do too. You're in the submersible.
