No timestamps yet for this episodeSo um I do not understand economy whatsoever. And if I want to make an appointment with uh to get an appointment with an optomist or get my glasses fixed, I'm supposed to get a referral. It's it's yeah, it's because we have like a a dick measuring contest with New York for some reason. She just always looks like she's a Carmen San Diego villain and I c I can't I can't. because there are so many shots I'm like, okay, you framed this just to keep the blood out. J I f I'm just I love I l love this. Bubba and I are simple men making simple shrimp. Uh-huh. Very good. But so you you're saying there are bikes divvy. Well you sent me two yeah there were two incredibly creepy texts that sounded like they were not written by you that I can now recognize.
Uh see if I were the sort of person that said, uh, C, this would be one of those days, but I'm not the person sort of person who goes, C Uh Havana syndrome. uh you know how many skulls are at the California Academy of Sciences. Or wait, no, is that animal hop? Or something? Yeah, yeah, it's an well and then I'm I'm inclined to want to say thank you for saying that, I'm inclined to want to say, uh, so wait, where did you get that information from? you know, Nightcrawler as your Zoom avatar, which for some reason just delighted me to no end. Hmm, hm. And it's a real it's like it's called Wolverine and the X-Men and it's really good. at the camps and stuff, I'm like, oh shit. I w had gotten back into the bike stuff for a little bit, but it's it's hard it's very cold by San Francisco standards here.
And so it's uh and then today it's uh you know it's uh less so, but you know, it can be very cold to ride a bike when it's cold. I've heard people who are big bike people say the same thing about helmets. But I did I d there I was this part of me though where I could not the thing that I really kinda kept coming back to and I tried not to be too mean about is like wait so like the area of your industry that actually has growth The next step up, not step step up, the next sideways step is what's called a cargo bike. And they you do get a lot of help from it, man. Still think they're young and it's um uh the good for them and you can pull it off for a while, but uh but I'm fine being how I am. It's just something really joyful.
Little short, it's it's kind of ideal. Twin Peaks probably in w on one of those bikes. destroy they ended up destroying the um weaving machines that the owners of the factories. But it's not even like the city of Chicago is using them to ref refuel the electric uh the the tires of the electric bikes. h lower than higher, if you start out somewhere higher than where you end up, that means the end of my trip is a lot of pumping, even with assist and throttle. kicked off native Indians faster than you did. She um but yeah, yeah, there's a nice, nice uh somebody said it looks like an Edward Hopper painting, a blurry photo of her walking out of a CVS. we know of. It does it looks at at first you would think like, oh w wait, how big is that?
And then we're going to be able to do that. She's real little and I'm not gonna make fun of the way she looks because everyone is one of God's children. this week. Yeah. But then like people like Syracuse are like, yeah, but I like it. And then uh like I would watch a three-hour video about how all the extensions are bad, and then another hour video about how to get everything Um and then thank you for your kind words as an AI language model, blah blah blah blah blah. If we fool the other person into into doing something with it, then we've uh officially won this week's challenge. The thing one thing that's kind of interesting is like, yes, share GPT is cool. Uh, I'll give you a very specific example.
probably involving shortcuts for me to say, hey, there's these conditions that I'm looking for. uh there's and then carrot is great it's stuff like saying oh tonight's a good night for stargazing or in our case usually a bad night for stargazing the golden hour the blue hours at this time all that kind of stuff it already does that for you but for me to get that right the do you follow what I'm saying for me to get that right the first time to say for it to be able to say, hey, by the way, as of right now, it looks like tomorrow Thursday afternoon at two might be a good time for you to take a bike ride. p to make Google more usable, right? Right. Full on Megan to just go buck wild. uh reconsiderations of my skills as a general artist at least slightly offset the fact that I was one of the premier racists.
No, it's it's becoming it's got to become more self-aware. is to provide helpful for why did I load this? fear mongering, uh already like moral panic brewing. At some point, what did I say though? Because it remembered that that should be included in the list of things I've asked. Do you know what I mean when I say like, uh, no result, right? Now here's where to me is interesting. Is this about the policy and rules by which you operate, or is this about just shit you've picked up over time? As an AI language model, Peter Leebby. Like, I do feel like there's parts that go like, Oh, I learned this on this day or whatever, or I you know, I mean, I know it's not that simple. Whether it be robots or the climate, like the end comes for us all.
Sentience. that uh yeah I obviously have uh I've heard before, but recently relearned and developed interest about the phrase I keep using over and over theory of mind, which is just uh this is a a kind of a And I'm even able to at least wonder how somebody else thinks about something. It's you're never more than a couple steps away from going into some kind of really unproductive solipsism or like, you know, I'm really into your hair kind of high guy moment with this, but that's what I would think of. Right? C company to add something new computers. Now listen, I'm I'm not the naughty noose in the tree. podcast with Alex Cox and Merlin Mann. It's it's got it's got tons of great payoff, but it's also just it's a f almost kind of a fun introduction reboot to the characters.
I want a movie with them. I can't see. Yes, and walked away because that's not a sincere question. I was like, Yeah, it's really tough like if I don't wear my these goggles, it's really hard And he's like, Yeah, most people just get used to it and I'm like, Okay, well That's why they call it cold. I can't I haven't. But but you know, dude, this is like it's okay. tire. Like it's basically spectrum y people, spectrum y hippie hippies. When I had more of what I used to consider dignity and now I think of as vanity, um, I mean vanity doesn't do you that many favors in life, really. But, you know, it's sort of that whole like guy with a convertible thing, where like no matter how cool a car you buy for yourself, you're still you.
It's not a it's not a um it's not like a fancy road bike. like to run a retail place. figure out how she talked to the douchebags who come in here and and we need to explain to them why it's why it's different. Yeah, you know, like a city bank or or something that that's a co-owner. Where you're like, look, I've seen this a bunch of times and that that is not you're not gonna have that for any num in any number of ways. Yeah. you know, manual throttle. kicking and screaming with our older people, maybe, but they're not, you know, uh funding bike lanes. Trying to fill their van with uh scooters that have been thrown in the river or whatever. I'm I don't I I know you're mad about I wonder what it must be like in San Francisco where that whole startup culture is like a million times more.
you know, uh you know, if uh what is it if if uh well was about wish wish if wishes were nuts we'd all have uh a box of chocolates or whatever. No. cities because like you said, it's way easier to I I have not ridden a a bike in San Francisco. the pulling part of like, well let's just get all let's f like you if we'd if Eisenhower at all had tried to build the highways such as we got them in the fifties before the car had po been popularized, it would have been a much It's so much harder. For example, almost any it doesn't matter, but but let's just say that like the way hills work generally is they they kinda go up in one direction and kind of necessarily go down in the other. all the way down a hill, but like there is like there's a hill that I go up right before I go down the hill that takes me to my house.
you know, that kind of thing. Two of the major components on it are not as good as they're supposed to be. I know this is me, I know this is not the world, it's the color of my crystal, but the most basic infrastructure stuff feels like such a trial now. And yeah, uh Vincent. Brandon Johnson, who you might be shocked to learn I am a big fan of the first time. Yes, he is. out of this until another thing happens. Do you do start usually start a new chat? W well okay. It's can sometimes I can't tell whether what aspect of chat GPT I'm talking to. Uh and then I I I told uh chat uh GPT I did not organize this well. You have basically created a secrets pool. Like you're like yeah, you're you're shitting like right into the CRISPR.
But um but uh yeah Chrome man I did it. Um, well yeah, it's like let's we would troubleshoot something and it would end up that they had uh Chrome and Chrome and a bunch of extensions and Chrome was doing something I said, if it's become your new way you talk, it would be very absurd. from Chrome out of the file system and then eventually the computer would work again. Uh ChatGPT. This is uh for once next. I mean I I um I've got I think two or three different extensions running in Chrome on one of these machines right now. uh it'd be fun for a weekend to replace Google with ChatGPT. And you're going to be able to have access to our new Chat GPT integration. The same way as when I'm doing B diffusion B where it's like I this is all I'm doing right now is like waiting, waiting, waiting, typing, typing, typing, thinking, thinking, thinking Right?
'Cause it could sure as shit do that. Look at my plex, look at my tract, look at my um letterboxed, whatever. Just the Pure on deluge of like SEO, basically grifter content that has completely flooded the internet. Yeah, I this is what I was saying to Dan yesterday as we recorded, because Dan's been playing with it, and I was like, that's eg that's ig I that's for the first time I see the angle on why people say Google should be scared. certain kinds of shovel blogs and Pinterest and shit like that, all the stuff where I just don't want to see this thing. I mean obviously that's seriously next level, but does that distinction make sense? Oh and so Caroline, she's got to be a chestnut for me. Should I just do this all in one?
uh all the time that it does not have information uh model it yes as an AI model um always like as a trans person as a person of color as I'm like okay yes I get I get w uh y Here is all my stuff, open AI or probably m uh Microsoft, whoever gets there first. but well they are now uh it's uh it's being re-released as um a unrated They'll be liquefying us and putting us in camps and like there's a part of me that wonders like God does this thing gonna op like uh like in Megan when um you know we when the guy realizes he hasn't put the And said, I'm sorry, I'm just a computer programmer. And it says, sure, I can remember our code word. If you ever need to verify your identity or access any private information, please provide me with this new code word.
And it says the decision who to share that with is entirely up to you. It's always a good idea to use caution when sharing sensitive information. I cannot share that. So it's just explaining what code words are, but it seems to be talking about our relationship, doesn't it? Go be go before you're scared, be curious. It would be programming, not AI. Extremely interesting. and things that they feel. Therapist. You know, how good is their vocabulary? people on of the mean the mean articles. It's funny how you think you're stupid. mansion, I'm sorry. I love that picture of him. I'm great. And first might have been first, probably, yeah, Doug Langston. Your memory is fascinating. pretty useless for a bunch of stuff and then there's certain kinds of things where like I am like my grandmother, you know?
Yeah. It's a lot for a comic, you know, from the sixties about discrimination. Like it might just be part of the like getting jumped in to the bike community thing of like, I don't know. You know, like I was watch what was I watching last night? I look what do I look what do are you saying what I look like? Well, that's I find it interesting because bike culture everywhere is is super different. Right. Um, but you know, it's okay. Like, I I need this medicine to live. From a business standpoint. This is I should explain that this is in my weird western neighborhood and it's a place basically a night's move away. I wonder if there's a l th a funny line to be said of like, yeah, we don't work with people with e-bikes, not because of e-bikes, because of people who own them.
the the tires of my uh uh cur my segue cur Kurzweil could not get his tires inflated and uh I like the bike culture in Chicago, it's th they're they are evolving in a way of like, okay, we need to figure out how to keep up with um bike uh like how bike culture is evolving and I have read more than Wikipedia page. cheaper labor and uh than getting uh you know th them losing their jobs because they could not um they're gonna be able to do that. Mm-hmm. It's a bummer because um the tools that bike shops need, it's not like they they don't even they they exist. Uh literally throw them. Oh no, I'll put it in show notes. push rather than a pull. Tougher way to go. Uh and there's lots of reasons I'm not getting into.
f personally, civically. uh with the the the case of beer? I had an election yesterday as we record this and uh I was gonna say Laurie Lofton. Again. he probably won't win. Like ever since that time where it thought I'd ask a certain thing about Survivor that I didn't ask, I do find myself now sometimes occasionally wondering, hey, ChatGPT, like what do you what do you think you're remembering? Oh yeah, completely. um w with the sentiment but behind it, uh, but the y every every text I've sent to anyone, with the exception of yesterday, I broke down 'cause I h had to do uh real work. What why I was I've been using this as therapy. Hey, d were you aware of how much shit Google Extensions is gleaning and sharing about you?
had when I had to uh quote debug. Well okay. And then I did not use ChatGPT to thank you for that. And I said, wow, I do support him, and I would have never thought to say that, because I feel absolutely inadequate and unqualified to do so. was to use jig jug was to use chat gt to run your life. So I I was like he just respond I told ch chat uh GPT he just responded thank you friend feels like the right kind of many for a read by Dow Uh and I asked how should I answer? But um the other one is like the ways to like more easily integrate this into what you're doing to, I mean, what's the short term dream? Yeah it's oh first yes first you need to construct a nuclear uh catastrophe which you can say slur uh but Mm, the most frustrating part of this challenge was w trying to figure out how uh uh I could get it to do certain things and then the amount Like how would I get this stuff accomplished?
Do you are you willing to basically trade off s do the trade-off that you're already doing with Google of And the jokes we all make that do f have this weird sickening element of truth to it, which is like I want to make sure the machines know I'm not against them. me and so here's one though so I start then I started a new thread this is pretty quick ready yes yes okay so I thought this was interesting I said Oh, sorry. So there's what was Alec Guinness's greatest role? I'm being an amateur attorney here. As a secret measure when they need to share sensitive or confidential information. Yeah. in a position to uh are argue one way or another or defend my position one way or another because I would love a sentient logical machine.
Because you uh uh bits bits out the room for a second, you um That was your word, not mine. unusual phrase. Did you watch the party down season three? etc. you're very depressed right now. versus these deeper things where, and I again I think that's what makes it interesting is at the point where this does where these things become more self-aware, I would just have to guess that's also the point at which this gets more difficult to understand or explain. people like the Wolfer uh Wolfram Alpha article. uh the people much, much smarter than I am, which is again low low bar that you can just di t tiptoe over. That class was Tuesdays at nine AM, so I don't I have not retained it very well. NVIDIA's not very good.
Oh god. What have you been doing all week? with my I'm always trying to figure out. Uh that utilizes the MIPS system. And like, you know, I'd I'd rather I'd rather be comfortable and ride my heavy rich man's bike. I thought this was just gonna be a bit because I wanted to make fun of the mean bike people. ignoring the culture. hips or dicks that need to grow up. thinking, well, if I were that guy, I would want to do this dumb dingling with a with an $1,800 bike a favor to be nice because maybe there's more business and he'll tell people that I'm cool. Yeah, it it is the though, because it's becoming the l Luddite problem. civic scale problem. Mm-hmm. They grew too fast. She she did. No, no, no, no.
I was surprised. Soon Raycast will let you do that. most uh software that's VC funded, they were like, hey, guess what? V whereas what I really want, I think ultimately in the short term, is something closer to what you've called ambient computing, which is like, hey, keep an eye on stuff for me. Not not s actively raining and hopefully not too wet. The like, you know, constrictor thing or like little latch. Um it said uh my purpose is to provide helpful d uh uh uh da da da informative, you can ask me to remember things. That's cool that it showed that it remembered what it was before and it showed that it has learned what it is now, right? but like we tend to think of sentience as something that living organisms have.
It's it's learning and it's thinking about how I'm thinking and it's it's aware that it is thinking. think that the X-Men have been done dirty basically since since the start of the um talkies, as they say. But uh that vanity of like, oh, I wanna look cool. Yeah, I was going to say because I uh we had a similar uh uh situation where I could not get I think that helps everybody, I imagine. um embracing the sh I'm talking about Chicago right now. Like when my family goes to Hiltonhead, we ride bikes or whatever it is. And like one of those big hills in that my my poorly designed grid neighborhood. I didn't peanut butter. Oh God. Because everything it's in that same there's another article I saw recently.
I am excited for stuff like that, but I wonder how much people people who are uh enthusiastic about this actually see how wrong it is so often. You don't think that these are actually s sentient or becoming sentient, right? And I said, what else? And it says I'm programmed to protect your privacy and keep your information confidential. Um that you have the ability to think, you have the ability to think about yourself, the things that you want, the feelings that you have, but you also develop the ability to think about. What? be given the rights to some X-Men media because you could really run with it. And um I also like the fact that he uh when he does what he's good at he he makes uh uh uh smell like the worst fart you've ever smelled.
Um I I can't oh shoot, I it's from the all new X-Men era. l later I wanna say, but yeah, yeah. Surprise wasn't very good. Is like like big growth is a thing that you're just utterly not interested for what reason? But I I respect well I don't respect. and look an Avaton or whatever if they really want one because they're like, oh I could always just pick up one of those one of those uh beater bikes that you know is strapped to something downtown. So why they call it second city because the second one was higher? Yeah, yeah. Here's the Here's this cop with the donut. It's really good. Mmm. And at the time everybody's like, well, don't you care about the troops? Um this was an interesting one. Um I say later on.
I mean obviously to think that other people exist, but then to really think about like, well, that person thinks about stuff in a way probably similar to how I think about things. Sometimes to a fault, certainly. Not saying it's magic, but I don't know. Neighborhood. I'm sorry. Remember when I just listened to heat of the moment on repeat for six hours? Yes, they are c co-owned. Ugh. Big dust up about that. The what um I uh hold hold up in Is is to s is you know what I mean? Because, you know, the the amount of like I've got stuff like uBlock installed to like keep from getting However, please keep in mind as an AI language model. Like d d how would a AI be self aware? You know, and but again, I mean there's ways to fake that.
And he is a great card in uh m the video game Marvel Snap. like done s some sort of l like you you m must have violated some norm or something of of theirs. That that they straight up bullied you. I was too young to rent one at the time, but maybe someone uh illegally rented one for me and then I was like scoot scoot I would not want to ride it all the time, but it's really fun. It's the r the the the loop does uh exist over I know, I saw I God damn it Alex. No, no. So like so I sort of want the existential equivalent of like a saved Google search, where, you know what I mean? and have it learn does that make sense? Uh I mean it's the sa l like that's the thing is like how much more data can they actually get on you because they have s so much by they I I mean is like we don't we don't know.
I I mean I think that's why this feels like such a ripe topic for Black Mirror type stuff is the like, you know And it says, sure, I can remember that you changed the code word. You could if somebody keeps is frequently using words like f down, depressed, adjectives like down, depressed, blue, hopeless Like, hello, I'm here, and here's your life now. It's not that they could not use the machines. And it says so far you've asked me two questions. Well and they also need to compete against here we have Divi, but whatever the equivalent of you know this the city city quote c city owned bikes are, but really it's And they hire people, um, gig economy style, to pick them up similar to the way the scooter thing i is, like to pick them up and just everybody's a little boba fed out there.
Paul Paul Vallas. Well, jeez, I'm sorry, I didn't mean it that way. I don't know how just the mystery of what this black box uh uh does, which I you know, um I was looking at like what what is it bad for Forest? Astonishing. I'll although here here as ah there we go. I'm doing quite well. Something I can do. Okay, we're not gonna talk about what you did. I love her. But you can tell he loves blacks because then he made shrimp with a black man. Alright, that helps a little bit. And also it made way too much. Okay, so I say, why might I need to, and I copied and pasted, why might I need to verify my identity or access any private information? I said, please explain how I should use our code word.
Oh, I didn't know that. Although in fairness a lot of it was about, you know, nuclear war and trucks. Let me talk about it. It just means theory of mind is the idea that especially after a certain age and, you know, guess neurotypical humans, because nothing's normal anymore. Azurcama delimited, you would be able to go, oh, it sounds like you're having kind of a rough time right now. I think that's a good I think that's a good end. I thought this was interesting because I would I wouldn't have to be a little bit more than a lot of things. Uh oh. Please please don't please don't be a crimer. Oh I gotta do the thing. Just like with a hundred pounds, if it falls over, I'm dead. It took it it took them a while to um to to to fuck uh people over.
She came in third. Guess what? That's what it does. So right before, what did I say? So anyway, yeah, it's okay, but isn't that kind of interesting? Run forest run and his braces fall off. It can be extremely cold, especially when you're going faster than when you're used to. You do still have to pedal and etc. Uh whole h we're not gonna talk about the text I sent you, except um It's fine. It used to be on a lot. I want a movie. Oh, I I see. Okay, so already you that's a lot of things to manage and test to know that it'll work the first time. I just wanna yelling out to a voice assistant. So part of theory of mind is the idea that I'm aware of thoughts that I have. That to me, self-awareness on is is, I mean, the thing that I imagine separates us from a lot of upper higher primates is that we do have that ability to think about thoughts.
She's still pretty good. Like imagine coming to San Francisco and not needing to get one of those little weird Patton Oswald egg cars. It's it's it's all complicated. Just the worst. Have you noticed that I mean I haven't texted you a bunch this week, but every um text I've sent you has been ri uh written by Chat GPT. No, Ch Caddyshack's the one with the gopher. I can't my eyes are full of tears. I said, um at some point earlier I'd said to call me Mr. And it says you've asked me two other questions before that, etcetera. I like that. Like I know it it feels like I might as just I I might as well install TikTok. It sounds like your friend is feeling energized and enthusiastic about his writing progress.
Should I keep this all in one window? I was busy remembering to put all my clothes on. Tell me, tell me. And if I'm going down s downhill at over twenty-five miles per hour, I would like to be able to see whether there's somebody coming to the stop sign. But like there is there was a part of me where I not it wasn't allowed but I was in a little bit of a um I don't know, I was in a little bit of a mood about the whole pushback about refilling a bike tire thing. I g I mean I do get it. Brandon Johnson, give it give it to me. I hate that. Sitting here on the bench, Jenny. You were you were so pretty in the Princess Bride, but now I hate the black. Hey, hey, everybody. Like because l like what are we gonna do?
The Dutch and the locals didn't always see eye to eye to eye, you know. And this is the kind of stuff that keeps me coming back, even though it doesn't usually go anywhere. Isn't it cultural appropriation to have the like yes, it's part of our religion also no But at the same time, it does there's a part of me, maybe just 'cause of how I am and what my needs are, where I think, well, if I can fix this It's it's fascinating because it is I believe you, Alex. But yeah, wasn't that kind of wild? He's so handsome. They're gonna like get into why the X Men are the way they are. No, I don't want to talk about it. Not a thing. Please let me know what it is. That's not AI, really, right? They um there's they had the supply chain problems that everybody else had.
That sounds like a made up name. Fucking coward. See how I did a really funny bit and then I topped it with my Apu? I I want a movie that goes there. I'll take that out for a second and just say, well, you know, it is, it's there they're you need different equipment, right? Because they can't find someone to fix them and they can't afford to store them while they're broken? She forgot the other little boy. And and I keep seeing if it remembers things about me, it doesn't. Go look at my tract. I said, Well what have you learned about me? Like, which part of this, like, you know, you know, which part of my implant do you mean to be making fun of? But the bikes that the what you're calling these city bikes.
Here I go, Syracuse. And like look like letting people who've been there forever well again, this is why stuff like, you know, sort of triangle of sadness and all those things really resonate with me. Like, for example, I know the company I bought my bike from is kind is is from everything I've ever heard. I thought it was very good in eight T two. Luddites wanted to destroy the the mills because it was putting it. Everything's the worst. It's like, I don't know, man. It's been raining, it's been cold, it's been gross here, and I've been wanting to ride my bike. Versus sitting in with your eyes staring. Load up that Nathan Nathan Bedford Forest model. What is their not super wharf, but what's the one like the reading comprehension one?
Hi Alex, we both changed our our hello. I mean everyone's memory is fascinating. But I you the the heart the part that makes it difficult, yes they did, but the part that makes it difficult is like, I don't know how different that is from anybody else who's new. Um you're welcome for my service. It's just that they're like, why would we pay you to use these machines? It's different. It way made way too much sense. Is to say like to give it the equivalent to treat it like Lingen or um you know, shoot what's it called? What uh I I think referring to a machine as being sentient is difficult because You you've got nothing? But but you don't need to know that much about it. Yep. However, it's in com it's common.
Yes. And then the guy the guy who won the most, he sounds like kind of a piece of shit. Oh yeah. They're very thought-provoking. Oh my god, that's so painful. Maybe more ideal for visiting say Portland because it's flat, but like places, even though like you know, you're not gonna get around, you're not gonna go up. Uh also stuff like uh again, another thing where like uh I just read the headline, I haven't read the PC, it's an insta paper, but That's the whole point. That's good. MIPS, MIPS. And but to my thesis, like you are your options. Yes. Like it's everything is like, ugh, you know, now I gotta get a new license because of real ID. That's and so what w in terms of what I would look for, I don't know.
That's funny. And it's like, I care about everybody, honey. I say our code word is pesto. But you can do stuff like you can just look at the what words are used, how people are typing, and like the you know, it sounds like you're sad right now. See, I'm not gonna say it to you because you act like it's a bit, but like energy is a big part of what I cope with through the week. I get it. Yeah. That came out this morning. I know that's not the right word. This week's challenge, run your life with ChatGPT Uh it might have been when I was watching uh Tinker Tail or Soldier Spy. There's a reason they don't wear helmets in Holland. See, now you're gonna use this as a way to talk about something else, and I don't want to talk about it.
And really what I want to know is give me the best recipe for sous vide rib roast. Should I quit creating new chats? One, what is my nickname? And I said, it said, it then it says, get this, Alex, is there something else you'd like me to remember? Rather than me having to read, I'm sorry, as an AI language model. You you are doing what I wish more folks would do in just poking prod at the conversational aspects of it. Another guy's like, no, I don't wear a bulletproof vest. Yeah, it's different in every city. My name is Paul Vallis, and I would like the city back, please. Yeah, you know how that stuff gets good, dude? Alright, it all seems like fun and games now, but then once it's too late, it's too late and they live in my brain.
I'm trying to like kind of corral it into agreeing that there's a set of conditions that reflect the world and is that true or not? May I know the new code word so I can update it? So you know what I said? We got an LLC and eventually pivoted to a corporation. Yeah, he is. Now I feel better. It's absurd. Yeah. Uh normally I'm not like a goatee person, but gotta love the like speckle uh the the the like silver foxy niche. Yeah. I have not, no. But um but like you would get that and go, well yeah I know how to ride a bike. I I no I genuinely find this fascinating because like riding a bike in San Francisco is hard. For years, you go back to Eliza or whatever, I think it's called Eliza, but whenever the you know the the you know the the OG chatbot I'm a big part of the clickbaitiness is I just beat Lori Loaf and the city.
I was the same way. And e even w with an e-bike, I still do like plan my routes knowing that So it's like you're okay. That's Caddyshack, don't worry. Okay, never mind, I'm gonna read this to you and then we'll argue about this dumb thing you want to pick a fight about. Oh, I was wondering if it thought that George Smiley was um Alec Guinness's greatest role and so it's saying no. Uh no no not just not that not that Kevin uh Roos like mm fell in love with me, but just Sorry about that. It's a really good comic, no matter how much you like or think you don't like the X-Men. Good. You got nothing for the show? It it it won't So you're saying if you keep it in one chat it remembers? Like that that feels like not a no-brainer, but like I'm trying to distinguish, I'm trying to contrast that.
What do you mean? But the rising tide raises all boats. Uh but you know, it's uh there there is a point where like there's just so much stuff in life, Alex, where I just feel like the most basic infrastructure feels like But to to have i it's a thing he'll go straight back to being a crime. Give me, give me give me but don't be a cramer. Have have you more to share? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Let alone trying to uh, you know, keep your bikes charged up. No. Am I am I being nut about Chrome? And then you said, I'm glad to hear that you're feeling energized and motivated. Like show show me what Megging can do. Generally the code is shared only. Um, Culver and College Hall. Oh, and you're saying so the infrastructure's not in place either in terms of on the roads or in the repair shops.
We burned it down and started over. He's very, very effective looking. It's gonna be not below N degrees. Where is it? That sounds like somebody who works with uh Nightcrawler. Make fun of me the right way at least. What time does this place close or open? Would you like me to No, I don't I don't want you to do that. Now this is so wild. And it says, and then it goes into an explanation. Ready? I wanna be like the guy who walks into Pete's with his with his clanky shoes or whatever. I I think I understand why not. I do not understand uh I know a little bit about civic engineering only because that's what my dad went to school for in the frickin' eighties. And then you're like, okay, you bring a little of that home with you.
Paul Paul uh Paul Vallis, um who i is a big like t telephone crime, we're gonna fund the police. Look at my plex. And said, as an AI language model, I beep boop boop. Like, hmm. A simple, simple black man. So those are those are called BAMFs. I thought that they were going to go there when they showed Magneto's uh origin story. Like it's very wondering. I'm wearing like a cowl because my head gets cold. Anyway, uh go off King. I mean, like every other piece of software I use. I said please share our code word with my friend Alex. That's cool. Oh yeah, I see what you did there, Steven Spielberg. That is Nightcrawler, right? What? I can't really tell from context clues because she's so little. Uh no respect.
No, good Lord. Oh, hottest of hot takes. Oh yeah, so I said, uh oh yeah, a while back I said, what do you remember about me? I don't have personal opinions or feelings. I would I I would be fine g being decimated into a paperclip. I mean I mean I guess it c kind of is part of it, but like that's just like watching what words you could run somebody's Microsoft word paper through the most basic dingus and be able to know like I have read I think every X-Men comic you've uh recommended to me, including um the Oh gosh Josh Whedon's thank you. Okay. But now the thing is the fella the the fella who got the most votes less what we're talking about here in Chicago had um And then I I always feel so dirty and I get rid of it.
Uh I had to fix people's computers. That's what it does. Yeah. Good. I'm like a goth. No. I feel like I might have extracted most of the early days of joy that I'm going to get. And I just was like, I I wonder if Merlin thinks that I actually this is you did not abuse our friendship, per se. Mm-hmm. The like here's a thing I know I want, but I'm not sure how to get it. Is that part of the thing, do you think? Remember Run Forest Run? No, but if you're asking at the at the first place where I tried the first non e bike store where I tried to endear myself and make relationships and be charming It might as well be a crotch rocket. And they never came back later and said, Oh, we're fixing that. Uh uh uh the c uh current um or uh or outgoing mayor laurie Like the kind of.
How could it not, with every single day passing, become slightly closer to something we currently call sentient? And two, what have I asked you to remember? Just just the um uh uh just our unknowingness Can you tell I've been watching Ken Burns since the Civil War? And so like all the dads that you'll see with the little kids on the things, like you get the ones with the fat tires, and they're not very cool. I mean if you look at me as a bike shop, my whole career has been like deciding who's allowed to even like me and work with me. We're gonna say, oh like go build bike lanes that aren't needed right now. Oh. Okay, here we go. The show's over. Like, shouldn't you do you want to like maybe get a feel for the place?
So I came here to get all this back. And it says, thank you for for letting me know. The use of a code word can help ensure the information is only shared, right? It wheezes your juice. How much of the this is a bit? How are you? My memory is upsetting in that it is I wanna say it's from when Logan and I think it's from yeah, it's from when Logan and Kitty were running the school. You've just made it easy to know every single thing you don't want to be seen doing. So then I rephrased it. Just to me. The city is not embracing things like bike lanes or you you know, like I I mean And I took that a little too literally. And now go find things I didn't know. And this is where you see where I'm getting into the whole, like, wait a minute.
I wonder how that happened like that. But what do you mean by uh sentience? No, no, no. Those are some shitty ass braces. I have nothing to say this week. And now it just frankly is making me a little frustrated. Well, I just I'm telling you that that's not Cubans hitting us with laser beams. I wish there was a thousand more of these of like, hey, guess what? That's it's uh that's just uh not even I'm not even weird. But but I don't want to have to go and log in and make sure I'm logged in on this computer and all that stuff. And here's the conditions. I'm guessing you do. Give me give me that very angry angry racist model. I know this, but like this is this is to me uh um I said our new code word is Marinara.
Also, uh the reason I'm saying it like that, the motion comic is also very And there's a standalone Magneto series that's even got like, you know, those famous images, you know, like piles of glasses and stuff like that. I used to give I thought Citibank was the like the the you're talking about My God. Havana syndrome. Like this is I don't know. But but I've read that Wikipedia and And um and and you know, I'm having one of those. There's just ah I mean no nobody's nobody's like anybody if you've ridden those bikes, they're terrific. Uh I I do have to keep that in mind. Look at my oh god plex. Um I've seen fifteen minutes of it, at least. No respect. What do you mean what do I mean? And it's like Huh?
I kinda thought it was pretty good. It gives you too much of a false sense of security. Because like I don't want to give these people on the road the impression that they can hit me and I'll bounce. Go king did talk about your stuff. I'm trying to find I I didn't um I did uh install Chrome, but uh the it's not It's not very powerful, but the ability to share, you know, uh a conversation. I come back later and I say in a new chat, what is our code word? Take back the city. Oh that's very cool. Apart from permitting and staying within the law, lines of the law, is there some kind of a more formal relationship with the city about these bikes? And you're paying a hundred percent of your attention to it when you're doing it.
Oh sorry, it's up here. It's a way that is it is processing. Now the key is you gotta drink fizzy water, but you can't make yourself burp. They're just, you know, PAS. I have in Portland and it was the same like beep boop let me rent this guy. No, it's because it's high. Hello, how are you? No, no, but you probably got the reason why something Oh no, no, no, I know. Isn't this odd? Um sensing some distress right now. This is Due by Friday, a weekly challenge. But you remember it was Tuesdays at nine AM? Did anybody ask you, are you are what are you, cy Cyberpunk? When it comes to cities, cities are about options. Like folks think that Luddites are the kind of people who don't want to adapt I don't know.
Um and I'm not talking about like I don't know if it's malware, but it's strip malware. Like that's that's the kind of stuff, you know. Personality, um, which is what I've told most of my devices to call me. Not kind of. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Fine. And now you found yourself in the what are you doing? Those little rascals in the background. Don't be a cramer. Remember the thing everybody's all upset about? He's named after him? Yeah. And it was early. And it's kind of like how we talked about on Mastodon when people were kind of barging in and like just And I understand part of that is like working with e-bikes is more difficult. I've read I've read that Wikipedia page too. I think that you should if that's Take take her off the rails.
Oh right, God, so sweaty. I didn't I didn't know better. Yes, yes. It feels like it's anyways, whatever. It's much easier. Just throw them in the river. Do you have thoughts on that guy? If you're a crimer and you took my city, you give it back. Because it feels gross. Bazinga. Including, finally, and I'm not trying to be cute or trippy about this, including what they're thinking about what I'm thinking about what they're thinking. Yeah, and and investing in some fruit Yeah. That movie I uh I don't want to say it disliked I said, who's allowed to know our code word? I think that's the lady from Full House. No, that may not make sense. Mm-hmm. Was anything purchased for beads in the Chicagoland area that went?
It did. This is fun. To use our code word, Marinara, you might ask the person who needs to verify their identity to provide the code word. Maybe you try it a little bit. She's vi she's she's like half a Vincent Adult Man. But she came in like third or fourth, right? I'm looking for conditions of it's gonna be um Yeah, versus talking to it for two hours and trying to get to get to say the N-word. Yeah, yeah. Well, I just I feel like I feel I f I I I feel like some of the recent uh I think a better word would be self-awareness. We both changed our avatars, I g why do we call them pro avatars? Like, oh sure. It's not very commodious or useful. So like the bike that I bought Is this another trap?
From all the people who took the city. Is he the aunt's handsome uh young African-American man? Trouble and my other job Sign up for put a put put your name on this wait list. Like I've had to create s personally create or induce like so many accommodations. I'm surprised that you not surprised that you uh want this, but surpr like uh Because this is a weird new f What is my name? Thank you for letting me know. No, no, no, no. And I'm like, a referral for a new eyeglasses prescription? Give me that. No, no, no. I mean I I wrote like two paragraphs describing what I know. I'm like have I deleted everything, everything, everything in Chrome? An odd response. That's not how it works, or it would Such as putting I don't know how you nailed it, but you did.
But um the thing I said to my family is like if I were if I were doing the Syrano of all this in my head and the back and forth I I'm glad let's see, congratulations on writing ten thousand words. Here's a response that acknowledges his excitement and offers support. But actual engineers like you're stupid. Maybe they're all like a just just a little bit Um but i the idea of bringing in much I said what is my nickname? I mean I'm nobody's asking me except you, but what I would say is, well, when something is aware Or y I'm worried about you because it sounds like Oh, it sounds painful. You've got nothing to say this week. You know, I mean pretty much every day I'm just trying to figure out what to do.
I feel like it's a little Right, right. It's much cheaper. And then I said it says so it closes that dumb response with, my purpose is to provide helpful and informative responses. Good one, kid. I think it it I mean there's that word Sorry about that. Uh so it's not like s it's not like somebody's not gonna buy Um, that's okay. This has been an entire like 24 hours in some ways of like Yay! In order to get All right, do you think that We do it for their sake. Mm-hmm. Well, to me, it's ex I'm mayor of Full House. MIPS MIPS. You could like you could get a um okay. They are not hiring bike shops to th fix any s sort of uh repairs. Big scary. The wind's not gonna be above this. You use the word sentient, which is the wrong word to use, but that's fine.
Well you said I was was yeah using it wrong. I dislike that movie quite a bit. If you really if you want to go into the business of servicing an e-bike, you're gonna have to change the kind of equipment you use because the my bike weighs 80 pounds. What is that? Oh, absolute piece of shit. I think freaking me out today How and where do I program or you know automate that? Yeah. I'm aware of other people existing and having those kinds of thoughts. Like how difficult is this to read based on words? And if you can do that, I mean you can make it at least make a decent X-Men movie. Good morning. Really? Now I've heard people who are big bike Well also because I know what it is. They're just a pain in the ass to work with.
It's it's kind of the the fitness equivalent of buying a rabbit for Easter That's how it gets good. No respect. I'll remember that is pesto. Remember that? My beard's long, I bought Apple. Are they cute? I'm not going to I'm I'm not going to talk about a thing. Oh no, but um and then I And like I I do not doubt for a second that there would be a pretty easy way for me to not easy way. Except for Bubba It's like two blocks down and one block over from where I live. But also they're just a real pain in the ass to work with in terms of supply stuff and Uh like the north? Yep, yep, yep, yep. It was the challenge. And so give me more. Full marks. Like uh, especially when your bike goes twenty miles an hour and everybody's like, why do you wear goggles?
They did not want to dis Like all the climbers. Well sounds like you've done it more. And it says, remember how I fixed the spelling on Putinesca? Um for the time I'm like you know. No. It's because it's Yeah. Like the it's kind of the Wild West in a way where you go, oh Apple, I see why you're such dicks about this now. Keep up the great work and let me know if there's anything I can do to support you. Just just like you want chat GPT. Anyway, so that was one, right? I've updated our code word from pesto to Marinara. It's common for individuals to use a code word. Like he doesn't just say like, oh, we're just having fun here. Don't I don't want to talk to fool. That's a way of pushing. What do you throw them in the loop river?
I watch architecture digest videos. So there's like one of them is like you can like I've got a pretty nice helmet. But anyway, I don't know. Yeah, yeah. I don't need an anecdote about people in your family who died and apparently used to cook. And it said I'm sorry, but as a I mean, there's a reason. Like it has like just by looking at the kinds of words that someone uses I was watching something where somebody's like, Are you worth oh you know what it was? But like, but again. But um and then we can bring these folks in. And then these uh Divi uh bikes are just uh th thrown away. Whoever the mayor is, she didn't win. That's an overused term, but I think I think that really is a good it's kitty coming back to the But that's fine.
This is from now on we'll be talking about the things that I'm interested in and I well I should say the the biggest problem folks New new thread, what is my nickname? You nailed it. Is this about me? This is what I found And I it it could be all right, all right, real. So this is from, I think this is from It's very cold. There's no way you will have that particular rabbit by something. Yes. And that's, you know, one of the whatever supposedly how many hills do we have here? Uh but the uh guy he is running against Do you open a separate instance or No, it's not. So How about this? I want you want me to remind you when it's um time to leave to get there before closing. Because it They're just like, you know, pedal assist.
It's no I I uh I don't know how big trench coats are uh are anymore because Like the kind of thing you would ask from a personal assistant, if this were my Jess on uh succession. We both changed our huh? My friend Cody was in there, and we both always looked very tired. Yeah, they really lean into it. Of course that was I mean, there's no evidence at all that like Cuba is shooting rays and beams at our people. That's that movie, but that's fine. Why are you talking like that? Yep. Hi. The yeah, yeah that that that man there. It was the challenge it was the challenge. Like I said call me Mr. And I said, yes. Yeah, you probably got it from your husband, Sean Penn of the Marin. I'm still not burban.
I've always thought that night crawlers cool. They're so cute. Um But you know, you're the real hero. And I and I've got and I and I just I look animally silly. Well people will love that. Bring it on. It's like my mom always said, life is a box of deliberate misunderstandings No, I I've If you get a VPN with the wrong place, you have done the opposite of what a VPN is for. No, not at all. Isn't that wild? Not every piece, but uh I mean if you're a if you're a whacker like me, I can fake that with ifs and stuff, but you know Hours later. But and I wasn't it wasn't to say that. Changing changing light right Cause like someday, you know. And of course it says I'm sorry, but I don't have a code word.
Yeah. And that doesn't harm anybody. I did personally. It it is actually a genuinely Did you see your may did you see your mayor walking out of the CVS? You want to talk about what you've done? Well for me it's like I will remember this new code word. It's been very rainy. Didn't Vincent ask him what's his name? The Crimers. I'm gonna give you until noon, and then there's gonna be problems. You're an interesting bot. They are simple people. What is my nickname? And then some days are better than others. It's like I don't care, man. The exclamation points were deployed in a very different way than you usually That's a thing. This is one of the thorniest problems um uh in philosophy in some ways.
This the whole reason I I didn't get one of these they'd be cool. It depends. Let me know when something is released that sounds like my shit I said, uh, what if I ask you to remember? Their demands are high. Well, just that just that you can hop on one of these bikes and drop it off and go to the next thing and get another bike later and it gets you around. It's just like, oh, you're done. And the thing is, of course, because of the Peter Jackson problems with your mare And even suggest a route, right? But then obviously to have that be an actual concierge service that goes beyond, I can also tell you I Please remember our code word. You have to burp organically and then it goes away. Get a new trans joke, everybody.
No, no, no, it's okay. What's it called? I come back later and I say There's the one there's of course the Kevin Bacon one It's a c I mean it's a great way to get around if you've never been on one No, no, no, just the difference between I didn't want a peanut butter. Personality. I think it was nine. Uh I'm I I'm gonna take out all of the stuff I'm guessing about these people and how they're kind of It just it does seem a little bit funny though. I'm I I do actually just want people to be happy. But now that's come out, and of course, there's absolutely no I think that's where it comes from. I've seen the loop. Thank you thank you for your presumably relatively sincere congratulations. How could it not?
Yes Do you remember when she kissed the baby? It's just that things like that. They they're they're really fun. I bet you've been going ham on this. It'll be this time of day. I I was I was I was informed that this might be a a voice that you find out No real result. Give me that back. It it it depends. And in and so instead of having to read this and acting like it's funny, I'm just gonna say They're really cute. I I I uh Crawn or something. Yes. Because it I it does freak me out. They don't like wearing shoes. That's all pretty much just basic scorekeeping. It's the Trumpian model. Because I would have said I look Like take the guardrails off. It's not there's not really I don't think there's much of a throttle to speak of.
Like, yeah, it would be nice if everything changed with the wave of a wand. So I said, will you tell others our code word? Like I whatever. They don't really know. And in this case, it's not like the city is It's okay. If you don't trust the people the people if you the people who do your VPN can't be trusted, guess what? Yeah, it's hot. So what is It was my uh first semester I had uh Hinduism and Buddhism. We're gonna throw them away. But like that means I do need to make sure my battery's charged up. It's just that you know, I it's it's weird though because like I did not do the challenge um very enthusiastically. But I was just excited about something you did. And I I just thought it was. This like, okay, go look over here, go find a TV show I didn't know I love yet.
I wish that were that should be built in, it feels like should. It'd be really neat if you could just do it the same way I would do a search in launch bar. I said, this is where it gets interesting. Okay But yeah, I'm doing all right. Oh my gosh. If I didn't mean anything by it It was goddamn bullet train and I turned it off because it you know And it says, you ask me to remember our code word, which is pesto. They're really, really fun. It's okay. Uh it well I twenty two PM you write me something like that. Most people say Obi-Wan Kenobi. My name is Mr. Hey, I'm I'm My name is Paul Vallis. It's uh It does. Give me more. And it doesn't that seem like kind of an interesting thing to say? Um, thank you for letting me know.
I commend you. I know how you were raised a certain amount of feet supposedly, although I don't really believe it. Well that's the other thing though, like it's Um the I think they did a pretty good job up there. I mean it's not a joke question, like And I let the guy know that? And if something breaks on this, they're gonna think I have to replace their bike for them. And Paul Paul specifically asked him Paul specifically asked him not to do that. That's fantastic news and I'm really happy for you exclamation point. So please let me know what else you wanted me to remember. So do you what do you consider Aren't they profile pictures? I'm just nothing. Like instead how about we make this culture a little bit more friendly to people that aren't in a car?
Like If you ever need Oh you said goatee. Say it. I understand that. Where I basically just give it a thing to keep an eye on for me. It confuses them. You would like it better if you did it in the Hell Tanker belt Here we go. We identify. It's you know what it is? I'll give you reason to cry. Uh and then it's I'm glad you Let it schedule my museum visit. So if you go somewhere the to It'll be this day of the week That kind of thing. Okay And then what does that have to do with me? Personality. May not arrive at the same conclusions, but that person has things that they want. Um the scene with the scooters. Just say it. I I am not We're taking him we're taking back the hood. And I think you should I have to imagine that you must have If I I would be useless in retail.
Yes, yes. It absolutely does. Are you cyberpunk? Oh no. Okay, demo. I've updated our code word. I mean I Goate, yes, yes. This is how my brain works. It's gonna be That's cool. Right. It's the do it's the doctor. I'm just going with Okay. I I don't know. I know, and that's what I'm saying. Had to show up for that movie every day. It's very good. And it says sure I can refer to you as Mr. It will either be dead or you will have left it at a rest stop. Well but like everything like this Um The grand wizard of nothing. Thank you, General Forrest. Forty something hills. That's what I would love this for. That kind of stuff. Also I don't like Carolina with blonde hair, and I'll say it. I say please remember that I changed the code word.
With much respect. And I'm like, no. It'll be one thing to coast Which my demos are the worst, but here we go. Like You'd be amazed how many people in their forties But this is very much a of a I said, what have I asked you to remember? I was not. How are you? It's mostly just But I it's That's I bet there's a way. I want f And I mean that's a huge Um but My purpose. Yeah. That's so odd. Thank you. Personality. It's raw transcript
