No timestamps yet for this episodeMm-hmm. After show me after show Mm. I sent you many things Did you? Well the last thing I sent you is uh I'm in such a good mood and feeling so good that I I I did a did a m uh a hell Apple Health emotional check in. Yeah. I wanna you save the date kind of thing. It's oh oh wait I did see this. This is in the Apple Health Beta? Oh, I don't think I've tried this yet. Oh, it's neat. Um so this is under mental well-being, and they've added a bunch of interesting stuff. And one thing you can do is Well, I I'm kind of surprised you haven't tried this because it it'll you can check in through the day, you could say ask me at the end of the day, and what's neat is you can record like, okay, here's the thing I'm feeling right now, or here's how I've felt overall today.
And so I said I'm confident, excited, and relieved, having a very pleasant day, which is the first time I've ever selected that. And I said, uh, I quit Twitter and I took all my medicine without barfing. Could is is it a frequent thing d burfing? Mm-hmm. Oh, I'm sorry. It's complicated. There's just so much shit and it's like If I take the fucking mostly useless pills for my ADHD sometimes, they make me barf. Did you ever eat a bufferin when you were a kid? Remember bufferin? I don't know. Probably not. It's probably before your time, but it used to be time was you take an aspirin. It'd be those little tiny jars, say um bottles, say bare aspirin, and they were so nasty. And then bufferin came along, and that our family was a bufferin family.
And that's, you know, an analgesic uh acetyl salicylic acid with a a buffered coating around it that tasted So bad. Have you ever thrown up after eating a pill? Oh, um yeah. You know that taste right before you get to the bile, you got that like super like tangy bitter taste. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I barf a lot of mornings. Um but then then then I haven't taken that drug. The only one I'm allowed to take. But anyway, and this is not about me. Uh this is about Yes, it is. It is. I'm sure we'll watch this video with you, but like I said, I it's three minutes long. I don't think it's very visual. So it's not worth probably including. It's very vigil. But I I just today in particular I would like you to see one Chris Fleming, but maybe we could watch it off air.
Let's let's watch it and uh a little noise will be right here. Oh, so what you're gonna do is gosh, uh so I clipped this video from my own stolen copy, but this is a segment um from Chris Fleming's stand-up special on Peacock called Chris Fleming Colonel Hell. And I I I'm so gay bones for this guy. I just cannot say enough about how much I love Chris Fleming. And I just wanted you I wanted you to watch this today because I I don't know, it just reminds me a little bit of what we were talking about. Um and I I I so I cut it, I I cut out this piece. I did it at 720. It's a little jittery, but it was just a fast job I uh I did on break. So. Alright. Oh hang on. Let me see if I can find where I put it.
Oh shoot. Where is it? I did watch uh the entire first season of Gail on the Tri Holy shit. Oh my god. I tear into that like corn on the cob. No, I tear that apart like a corn on the cob. I love that she loves oh and Bonnie. Can you believe Bonnie? I can't have Bonnie Sini struggling with this cheese. Oh his his words are so funny. Anyway, there's probably gonna be just a beep here, but if you guys want to see what we saw, it's the segment in the special right after the incredible scene. The incredible song about once you run into parents with structured hats, you know, they've abandoned parenting. That child's basically awarded the state and they have an off-leashed dog. Where's his leash? He doesn't have leash.
I love that about us, babe. Um and so um we'll do this and there'll probably be a beep because it's it's pretty visual, but a beep. I'm gonna do a way better sound than a beep. What's the last time I just did beep, beep? Usually put when you go beep, I think that's funny. Be well. I mean that's a beep, not a just a beep. That's U Alright, three, two, one, go. My husband, Dave! Most of his stuff is so fucking weird. That's the part that really gets into my brain, is like the really weird stuff. So that was probably too visual to to drop in audio, right? Yeah. People are gonna hear uh a a beef. Tell up Dave! I'm not doing so hot! I think my favorite line, what where do you begin? One of my favorites like stop it, Dave!
I don't like the way you move in public. Get inside, Boo Ralph! Get inside, Boo Ralph. And don't you love the kids? Terry Grosswaters Waters and Ira Glasswaters Waters. Oh, I Bonnie! Have you seen Bonnie? Have you seen the one where their dogs meet yet? Oh, that's that's such a are you asked giving me if I breastfeed? Yeah, yeah, yeah. Did did you did they charge you less because of the lazy eyes? He's such a good writer. He's a wonderful performer, but he's such a careful writer. Oh my god. And he just the way he uses his body. Oh you mean like a kitty. Okay, all right. Hey! Tick-a-dick-a-k. Hey. Good day, huh? Dig Doug, I want to hear about uh Twitter. Oh, sure. Um yeah. I mean, you know, what is there to say?
Um I mean, you know, I think in some small way but really okay, so y I think you were part of this. Where you you know, you've been making fun of me about about being on Twitter. And you know, I know it's it's kind of a joke and kind of not, and I haven't felt great about it, but anyway, QED, if anybody's been following the MPU. It's been a while and like I've been sad like everybody. I just And then when we recorded with with uh when I recorded with Squidward last night, that that was our main topic was what should you do to support social media networks that you want to see succeed? And Spoiler alert, we both agreed that doing putting your stuff there was like putting your marker down, like putting your attention there and leaning into it and like Trying to figure out if it can be a place you love and yeah, and you can support financially too.
I don't know. Um it's just Twitter is just it's it's Uh the the second to the last straw, the final straw is I'm not gonna try and like cover myself in glory like Anne Hero, but the second to the last straw is just what a garbage fire of content it is. Like I never used to get Like right-wing nuts in 4U. There was a time where I thought 4U was kind of cool. Like when the regular timeline still worked, when I could see other people's this will all be covered in an episode that's out in six weeks. But like I I can see my stuff, I can see other people's stuff, people saw my stuff. But it's not I I hate to sound quite so sweaty about it, but I don't know how to put it other than if people don't see, can't see, won't see the stuff that you're posting.
Well then, like why are you there? And and I I made a case to Syracusa of something I think is true, but became a bit much, which is I need to make stuff. And I'm gonna make stuff no matter what, and I'm gonna post it somewhere regardless of whether or not there's a quote unquote audience for it. But it just wasn't fun anymore. I mean, I know it hasn't been fun. Like, you guys set aside the chicken problem for a minute. It was just, it's just been such fucking hot garbage. And then there'll just be these weird tears. where like the I I'm s I'm looking at Twitter more than I have in probably years because there's so nothing there. And some of it's cool. They're like, hey, you like birds. I'm like, yeah, I do like birds.
Here's a bunch of birds. Okay, cool. Like here is like a could be kitty cats. I yeah, okay, but eventually now I'm clicking on a thing that says not interested in cats. Cause okay enough. But then like in the last week it's been like Ultimate fighting, um, promoting a band I've never heard of, uh and then more and more like fucking right-wing dinglings. And and I'm just I'm gonna say this because it's a very small straw that seems like a big straw. Threatening to sue the Anti Defamation League for defamation. It it Wait, wait, did that happen? Did he is he is stipulating amidst all these other things that we damn well know have happened That basically the the anti-defamation league is part of this like conspiracy to like bring Twitter down and lower their value.
And that he says he has Twitter has been defamed. Oh, isn't that ironic? Lemau. He's the he feels that Twitter has been defamed by the Anti-Defamation League. And if you're not familiar, that that's a group That's a group that looks into, especially public, anti-Semitic behavior and speech, because, you know, there's a little bit of a history of anti-semitic speech that eventually turns into more than that. Mm-hmm. I I I hate to give it in pigs and bunnies, but like it was but like I say, that's not why. The the why is just it wasn't fun anymore. But when that was like it you know, the kid went to take a shower. And I thought, I think I'm ready. And so I went in and I I didn't deactivate it yet because I don't know what I have to deal with, you know, but I I, you know, I removed my Twitter header, I changed my name, and I changed my bio, which I have hundreds and hundreds of bios that I'm constantly changing.
And and banners they're constantly changing because I want to do that. I want to change my location to something funny. You can find it all on GitHub I've got, you know, all those if you want if you're curious, like all the dumb references and songs and stuff. But that's a thing I do. That's a fun thing. That's a creative thing that nobody cares about. Nobody sees. So I'm gonna say a true thing and I'm gonna I'm gonna try super hard not to cry, but it's gonna be really fucking hard. Um I it was like 7 30 last night and you know Matt's coming back into town today. Kid and I have just had the most amazing few days. watching movies, going places, making food and just like it's just been really nice and he's been so cool with me.
Um And um he got out of the shower. Like he barely put his clothes on and he goes, Uh, what happened to your Twitter? And I said, Yeah, I I think I'm gonna I'm gonna bounce. Well, I think it's time And he goes, Um, well you'll be back sometimes, right? And I said, I d I probably not, like I don't think so. And I was like, I I'm I'm sorry. And um he's like, I I you know, I I I'm I'll miss that. I said, you like sorry, I'm so basic. I was like, y you like my stuff? He's like, yeah, I'm I'm gonna miss it. And I'm still very emotional about it because that is just the most boiled down version of what I've been avoiding is like how much of s thousands of kisses that I've wasted on that site in some ways and I don't know, I don't regret staying there till yesterday, but like I just made that decision.
I don't and I had a just one little kind of like post that got slightly amplified by other people to say like, oh my god, Merlin's doing the thing and whatever. But like He said, what happened to the header? Which where's your banner? I said, oh yeah, I kind of took that down to let him know the place is vacant. And he's like, I'm gonna miss that. And like it's ironic because like the one person in the world that I would like to like my stuff does like. And then I'm I'm walking away from that and he's bombed. Cause, you know, Mastodon's good if you want to talk about computers. I hope it'll work out for me, but that's not where his interests are. And, you know, who knows, maybe someday, but like it was really m It was really moving to me.
I I don't know, maybe he's just being nice, but I I think he does notice and he does like it. And it um that means the world to me. So I've been having a really emotional day. You can understand, like it's just I I'm two gay bones for my kid and he has really good taste. So the fact that he notices I do anything, I'm sorry it sounds so needy, but like It does. Stephen King, I know, but in his book on writing, which is a really good book, Stephen King um coins a phrase that I like a lot. He says everybody out there who writes should have a first reader. And the first reader is the person you show it to, and they they give you what you need to know to do next or to do differently. And I have a handful of people who are my first reader, my tabby.
And i I I mean I don't write it like f for him, but I everything I put up I imagine he could see, even the dirty stuff. I mean hell, we're gonna watch Perfect Blue tonight, so I think we'll be okay. But anyway, anyway, it's been Alex, it's been really emotional. I put so much effort into that fucking sight. And i th the ten minutes after I decided to walk walk away, my kids said that. So, does that make sense? Yeah. I doubt It's hard to walk away from. That sounds so stupid, but like it's that's what I know. That's like where I got good at this. And it's m way more emotional than I expected. It's not about like, oh, Elon Musk or whatever, but it it is about my accepting the dissolution of something that's been more important in my life than I was prepared to acknowledge.
It's and it hurts me. I'm not saying it should hurt you, but I think it's rational So I'm going over there and I'm really I'm not trying to be, I don't know if we use that that that encyclopedia dramatica phrase anymore, but I don't want to be Anne Hero. And like I'm not like whatever, but like I I don't know how it's gonna go. I'm gonna just the same way I print little guys, I'll just take little steps and see how it goes. And I hope I don't annoy people and I hope that I can pff see shit my friends have written or Like Syracuse really focused on a big part of this is like he was talking about how he and Gruber were comparing notes on the number of app mentions. And again, you can look at that as being sweaty, but the reason Syracuse uses Twitter in part is to like that is the place if you want to talk to John Syracusa and you can do it like a gentleman for years it's been doing on Twitter and there's a pretty good ch chance that John will star it.
If it's cool to say, hey, I see you, or respond to it and say, you know, well, he won't say thank you because he never says thank you. But you know what I mean? And like when you when you lose and so the way I described it, and again, I I'm gonna stop apologizing for this, but You can look at these hearts and stars, moons, clovers, and diamonds, but like heart hearts or stars are are what I think you would call a trailing economic indicator. Because it's not that You could look at it certainly as like, okay, people don't like this as much. That's the way we used to do it when everything made a little bit more sense. But I call it a trailing economic indicator. Because fewer of those things means there's a pretty if I see that go now by an order of magnitude, it's not that I'm mad that I lost all that fake para-affection.
It's that it means people aren't seeing my stuff. And I'm, I guess, needy enough or enough of a publisher that if people don't see the stuff that I do. So, you know, obviously that's a factor too. But yeah, the home the home acid on things like a like a whole new thing for me and I'll fuck I can figure it out. But uh yeah, it was it was it was really weird. I I woke up this morning uh and I felt kind of slightly lighter That is interesting. Well, I feel like I've been I've been I've been sucking off shitty milk from like the worst cow in the world. And I just keep squeezing the udders harder and harder, exp expecting joy to come out instead of just Bile. Mm-hmm. So anyway, that's that. We'll see how it goes.
That's a few. I changed all my profile things. All different places. I changed a lot of profiles. I'm already on it. You can see that's all of course. I started a thread that's just for describing this journey, which I thought might be interesting to somebody. We'll keep it all on that one thread. Oh, this app is so fucking hard to use. I don't don't use this. Don't um I hoo. Um It f it feels like you're going through um not a similar feeling, but uh I guess similar. Like we we all depending on how long you have used and been on Twitter and how long you've I guess been un like a known entity uh on the internet. It in a lot of cases was the I I mean I got my job from Twitter and like and well and and and Tumblr.
Like I got my job because I put st like everything that I uh wrote and filmed on Twitter and Tumblr. And that's at least for me and a lot of my peers why it was sad to go away. It's like the old saw used to be, oh, you know, oh you know, girls don't like nice guys. You know, and it's like, well, it's not that they don't like needy guys. But also like, why is it that so many people find this is part of trauma. Why do you find yourself so unintentionally attracted to people who are really similar to people who've been terrible to you in the past? And that's not just about women. I don't mean to say that I don't mean that to be like a sexist thing. But it's it is because it's true of everybody. Why do you find yourself or like because it is it's easier to s like when when my before my mom got divorced from my stepfather, she put up with a lot of shit.
She needed a place for her kid to live. Yep. And that was more important than and that was always her top priority. So anyway, I don't want to make this a whole buster. God thing. But like it is very hard. But what you're describing is absolutely real. And it you could look at it as something as simple as the devil you know. But, you know, it's it's hard to unhook yourself from something because we do all tend to confuse or concatenate our strong emotions. And it's hard to pull away from something that's created a lot of bad emotions and bad experiences because it's fucking complicated. And people who've never had that problem are not in a position to opine on it. Mm-hmm. A lot of folks were never around when uh f Favar Favard was a thing.
Yeah. And some ways in which that that's what ruined Twitter in some ways. Yeah. I mean it just got so fucking sweaty. I'm masturbating it's Saturday night and I'm a hot chick masturbating with hog and dust. Sorry, Mom. That's funny. Put a lot of time into that one, didn't you? That's good. You made a vagina joke. Good for you. Anyway, the Favard. It's also then like I use so much cream rose in the early days. Excuse me, forgive my saying. Uh, in the early days of that, yeah, that's how I discovered people who were fucking hilarious that I didn't know. Might be how I discovered Fireland. Um maybe through Scott, but like there are people who are like some of the funniest people I've ever met that just killed at Favard and at least for a while.
It was amazing. And I think a lot of that ended for a large group of people in uh t 2014. I know it sounds like I twenty oh 'cause of Gamergate? Yeah. I know it sounds like yeah, I I I know that the amount of times I occasionally mention a lot of and then occasionally that doesn't make sense. When I I I feel like when I mention Gameer Gate, it sounds like it was this It it still affects me uh a lot of well a but I don't I don't mean emo well Sorry, that's funny reference, I swear. It's good job, Princess I mean it's it's not like when Kurt Vonnegut said, Oh yeah, I don't really think about the war. Like it's i I don't mean it like that, but it changed so much of how Me and my friends and an entire industry of people in terms of people being shithels.
I bet it was unforeseeable in terms of the scope and depth and f just uh how i how involved that became in the in the handful of industries where you just couldn't keep it's like nine eleven. You can't just keep doing it the old way. R right. People might think that I'm talking about the world way, and that's a good thing for me to know. Yeah. I I well and I'm not really even just talking about the sort of uh uh harassment and and abuse but also the reverberating effects uh with the assumptions even I I guess the people were quite on the good side of of Gamergate. Like there was just a an assumption of hostility for a lot of people. And that's why Twitter hasn't been fun for me for a very long time.
Because as much as I've tried to directed toward you, but just directed toward everybody, right? Like you just come across people just like canceling events in their life to just go and be terrible to strangers for what feels like no reason. But even even the folks who are making comments in good faith, like there's still m the majority of those folks are like still still weirdos, but A lot of relationships and fun bits ended up going away because of just n the constant anxiety of Is this going to ruin my week? Is this a good thing? And you start living and you start living, especially if you're kind of well, I don't know, I don't want to be cute about it, but especially if you're the kind of person who has notifications on.
And you suddenly hear something going off and it's like that it's like me hearing the telephone ring. For no particular reason other than past trauma, the telephones freak me out. And I'm in a in a position now where I'm okay owning that and and dealing with it. But like, no, I'm not gonna act like that's not true to s to seem more grown up or cool. What's the point? I mean, I'm I'm gonna stay in in some kind of I'm gonna stay a curled up kitty for the rest of my life. Um and or or a puppy. But um it's Uh just been that the in an environment in which uh people who should know better allow themselves to be drawn. And this and this leads potentially to this idea for a challenge that I'd at least like to talk about.
You know, which is like every what I said to Syracuse was I feel like anger is has become the side dish for every meal we eat now. Yeah. I mean not I mean and again I'm not telling anybody like hey women don't be angry. Would it kill you to smile? I'm not saying that. What I I am saying is like a permanent state of anger about so many different things. It is worth examining at the very least. Yeah. That's the the you know, us woke SJ dubs on t to Twitter in t in twenty fourteen. S uh suddenly we were angry at strangers who didn't know who the fuck we were, didn't mean like it So I look like right now I I'm so on the side I I think I really am so on the side of the of the writers and directors who are on strike.
But there's nothing about that that is as simple as anybody wants it to be. I forgive my saying. I'm not saying who should win or lose, but I'm saying like it is fucking complicated. There are people who yelled at Adam Driver for being at a film festival. It's like, well, you know what? He's at a film festival for a film that's made a deal. So then there's like triple there's all these layers and levels of anger and all this policing that we do of whether other people are allies or not and you're not not enough of an ally and it's pretty soon it's like Maoism and we're looking at who's the counter revolutionary in the room. And that's that's fine. Like if that's working out, that's okay. I cannot sit in a constant stew of people yelling at each other about things that they don't control.
That is fucking madness to me. I I am very I I d uh I'm not trying to be like I No, no, no. I agree. Well, except that I do think the writers and and actors should should win. But no, the amount of shouting about from folks. Just because people feel strongly about it? Yes. Yes, you should I mean, well uh the the fucking when when being dad ha happened and just seeing people I knew just uh reacting in such a like I I think it's a good idea. Yeah. It For no reason. For misunderstanding. It's i it I I I I could like be Fine with uh just just the the majority of the random mm we weirdos, but when Because, you know, once you get to a certain even like a couple thousand followers on on Twitter, like you're going to get every single a opinion ever and it's gonna be weird.
Because it then it's out of your it's out of your Pond. Yes. But and way out of context a lot of the time. Right. But but then seeing people I n I knew and had like met and hung out with in real life just having the same angry feral reactions to just the most benign random stuff was so I don't I don't know. That that's when like I again I said I said this to Syracuse. It's like all all when I say we I'll I'll just include myself in this. All we do all day long is is eat eat anger and shit rage. And then we eat that and and the music goes round. And then somebody else takes an anger shit and we gobble it up. And and yeah, if if that's not accurate for most people, well maybe they spend less time on this stuff.
I don't consider myself a quote very online person. You may have noticed from time to time I sometimes beg you not to tell me about shit from the internet. I don't want to know everything. I just want to like I want to talk to the other guitar player Aiken Ray. Like what the fuck? Well that's the thing, the past few weeks you've I've been like, oh god, it's not on the internet and I didn't even know what the fuck you were talking about. Well I just mean like all we but like it's all part of that same problem. It's it's the shit the shit rage eat hole And like all we do just keep going around and around and then we all end up going, er and it's like that is not wholesome. I mean if it helps I mean I I'm just speaking for myself.
I'm not I don't mean to judge anybody. And again, I want to be triple clear that I'm not telling people they shouldn't be angry. Reb read that Rebecca Solnitz book. Like there's a reason to be angry about things. But what you decide to do about that anger If you're if you're if I from for myself, if I find myself having this emerging boiling feeling, and again, bringing my bringing up my blood pressure, which is not a good idea. Right? Because you're like, oh I feel I feel so helpless about what everything that's happening in Florida where people I love live Including my mom, including I'm gonna say dozens of friends, if not hundreds. Certainly there's thousands of people I care about, even if I haven't met them.
Like that I can't tell you, like watching what's happening with New College What am I gonna say about that? Except that the same thing I always say, which is yeah, it's frustrating. Cause what am I gonna fucking say? It's like you let these chuds Go and run shit into the ground for no reason. And not even and like look at Ron doesn't Ron DeSantis. He he and the way he keeps like plummeting in the poles is I I must admit a little bit of Schadenfreude with that. I would like him to be unhappy. But like, but but the thing is like it doesn't I'm not helping anybody. By eating other people's rage shit. Mm-hmm. And it certainly is doesn't taste good. Yeah, g uh guzzling a villain's Piss doesn't make you an ally.
That doesn't help anyone. And I've tried to express that. That's why I keep saying to you, don't carry water for people who hate you. That's why when when we when we joke about what the website and I'm not sh I don't mean to chide you, but just so you know why that why I'm motivated to say that is like when we adopt the language And uh uh when we adopt the line like I feel b like eve I've made so many jokes like this and Ma Max and all uh the three of us failing New York Times Right? All that shit that's like cause you say why do you say it? You say it 'cause it's funny. 'Cause it's the funniest shit in the world to go to the family New York Times. Well the New York Times doing is doing better, whether you like them or not.
I they frustrate me a lot, but They're doing as well as they've ever done with subscriptions. They're not they they haven't been failing for really ever. And they actually are a unique success story. And I know you know that, and yet we keep saying the failing New York Times because Donald Trump's a fucking dumbass, and it's funny to say that. We carry water for people who hate us when we take their language. And then it just becomes sort of normalized, naturalized into how we talk. And I think that's I think that is a that is a poor idea and that like I said I don't know, somewhere recently. Irony is a shitty comfort pet. I mean, I think there is a tough oh Exactly. Like there's I think a difference between reclaiming the bucket and worst.
Oh god. I mean yeah, don't get me I God. Thurs and peach dot twice the disgrace a tangerine. Oh my god. Please. Jeff t I I don't like the amount of time aims I like a news story would uh uh uh break. in like 2018 and then run to Jeffrich's account. Yeah, to see like what does Jeff Trick have to do with the It's called election interference. You know I'm doing it. Anyway, anyway, whatever. I want to dwell on it. I do need to clean the house before my wife gets home. That's why I said I have balls in the air. I Re real quick, or will this be on Recdiff's uh did like Um if you want, I'd be happy to send you the the raw one. It'll be out next Thursday. Yeah, I I I want the raw. I I uh g give me that good raw shit because I'm very I'm very much raw dog.
What is that? That's when you listen to a podcast that's not released. Is that called raw dogging? That's uh when you listen to an unedited podcast where it's uh yeah, where you put a radio uh um I remember when I first learned. What about what about a dirty Sanchez? Is that when you share that's when you share a podcast that's raw with a friend? Is that called scissoring, Alex? Was that called scissoring? Oh man. To me in some ways that one got me even more than uh Felix posted that not too long ago. Uh that one got me i in some ways even more than Goatsy the first I don't know. Oh, did he really just post on Twitter? But like the just the expressions of the three gentlemen. The three gentlemen I call them, the three gentlemen of Verona at the lemon party.
They they um their expressions, th just the looks on their face, I was just like, uh you know, it's rough. It's kinda rough. I would I would not encourage people to like Google that if you don't know what it is. It's okay. Just don't worry about it. Google blue waffle instead. I you know, I I gotta find the Pokemon parade. When when Twitter stopped being fun for me was when RSS when it truly was like, oh I'm done is isn't even necessarily when Ivory and all of or sorry um All of the great third party all the great third party apps like Twitter Efic, um and uh T Tweetbot went away. Oh God, remember Tweety? Oh, the what a time. Um, but I was like, Oh, hey, you know what? RSS, cool. I can still uh read like the few people's tweets.
And that was like really fun for a week until i that was taken away and now a there's no agency on Twitter, which is the thing that you know I have such strong feelings. Like in the early days, Michael I think Michael Lopp was the first person I ever heard say this in the very early days of Twitter, um Ranson Rapost. And and he said the great thing about Twitter is that you don't have to see anything you don't want to see. And if you start seeing stuff that you don't want to see, you have an option for seeing it less or not at all. And especially if you're using Twitter if my god. Um if you can like do muffles and stuff like that. Um but like just one by one, a little piece by piece. They they chipped away at all of that and as Syracuse's case is some of the stuff's just broken.
It's not it's n it's just it i some of it certainly is what I would call malfeasance, some of it's nonfeasance, some of it is just letting stuff go to shit and and not caring and it really at this point does seem like a dare and I'm tired of living in Elon Musk's dare. Yeah. It's uh I I I th finally the ability to uh hide your blue check rolled out which made me very excited. I because I'm not Inglorious Bastards. Do you remember the end of Inglorious Bastards? Oh do I ever? The old Hans Londa. You're gonna go back there and nature brought worst and Take off that uniform, aren't you? Mm but I uh and God I uh had uh Twitter blue for n b the um, you know, related uh or the the really cool feature.
Like I yeah, I had the I ha whatever the previous version of that was. And then I uh uh cancel it 'cause it i it was like not uh not even for any like sort of ethical reasons. I'm just like this is you could you could post videos. Right, which I loved. Um you could edit. Mm-hmm. For a while. Yeah. I didn't use like half of it, but the ones that were there were it's like why why you get in first class? Well I'm I'm gonna pay for I'm gonna make this client pay for first class because like not because I need a free champagne before the flight, but just because I want to be unmolested and work on my presentation. It's not not to impress chicks Well, b did you ever notice that I still had that fucking blue check mark?
Because I don't know. Oh, you landed in that pile of Like And no one knows why I don't have enough followers. I don't have to for a pre-little while and then it went away. But I I got like uh s sociopathic random people in my DMs along with uh the uh you know porn bots, the Bitcoin bots and just have been asking me if I'm ready for this. And I don't mean this long. Man, it was fun to go into your replies when you posted and see how long it took to get a naked lady. Some people think it's when you post a video or an image. Like there's something I don't know that's I don't know because I thought all that shit was cut off. I can't imagine that's being done manually, but they must be just scraping I don't know.
I don't know Anyway, um I don't wanna I don't wanna dwell and sit in the sadness. It is a healthy kind of sad, especially because uh I uh th no, I know More people are going to see your work that it it what? No, no, I I no I know exactly what you mean. No, I no I can tell you. Yes. The the people who uh care just like the first thing. If you like music, if you like you know, whatever. Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's what Syracuse said too. He said I was 'cause eventually it was a really good episode, I think. One thing I said was like how should I be on Mastodon? And he gave me a little analysis of why my I'm kind of a tough fit there and I think he did a really good job with it. Mm-hmm. It's it's weird.
It's it's uh I I've had people in my family who do this thing. I'm I'm as long as I'm being candid and vulnerable. Let's just let's just abstract this. I I do you remember like I don't know. Do you ever like cross out people who you hate in your yearbook or you ever like You you you've got a photo of you and three friends and one of them was horrible to you, so you like m sharpie over their face or like cut them out. I've known people Okay, so when I when when I am finally fully canceled, this is the kind of thing that I think will be interesting to people. Um I don't believe in cutting people out of photos. I don't even believe in taking down photos. Now that this is my own opinion. If somebody did something horrible to you, well the thing is everybody should do what they think is right.
I'm just saying I'm not the kind of person that cuts shithels out of photos. Because I think our past had a role in making us who we are, and we can't cut that experience out of our life by cutting them out of a photo. And like maybe you put the photo away. But I I don't know, this is not for everybody, and it's not advice. But I'm just saying like I don't think it's wholesome to to it's one thing to have a divorce and quite another thing to have a nullification. Or annulment rather. Because a annulment is such a strange idea to me. Because I think it started in the church and the idea of a divorce is you go like if you can do it legally. Like we decided this ain't gonna work out. Irreconcilable differences or whatever it is, you break up.
But an element is so strange to me. And only a fucking religious nut could ever come up with the idea that as of this moment, your marriage never existed. Mm-hmm. It's like, oh, it didn't exist. It sure felt like it for a while. Nah, we decided to annul it. Oh that's I didn't think that's wholesome at all person. Oh no, I didn't even think that that was like a real thing. I thought that was like a a thing people think. I think it's like an exorcism. I think it's pretty real. I meant even uh well uh uh I actually know people who have had an unul annulments because there are some Catholic weird a lot well, a lot of Catholics are feeling anything. If you're comfortable saying what is the kind I mean like it some of it's not it's not adultery.
It's like it's more like stuff like obviously there could be like, oh well you lied, you said you were twenty, but you're actually twelve. That could be an annulment, right? Yes, but you fibbed about being able to be married in a church. R yeah. Yeah. That's just a process crime. That doesn't count. You can't annul me. It's I love you. Oh god It's I I've always found that to be very, very off putting. I think it's like I just want to be so super clear about this. I would never want to I would never want to hurt anybody or I would never want to be hurtful. Like if somebody I mean, I don't want to be gross and triggering about it, but like if somebody like serially abused you and you've just had it with looking at that photo and I you know what I mean by photo.
It's a metaphor or metonymy or whatever. But like like if you just can't look at that dude, I totally understand that. There's times where I've changed the photos that are in rotation on the Google uh hub just because some kinds of photos are just too painful to see three times a week. I think there's a difference between doing that. Like when when you said cross stuff out, I immediately thought of like doing something out of anger the rather than out of trauma or out of uh An emotion that's still hot Yeah. I yes, yes, exactly. Like there's a difference between, you know, taking like not having the uh just like big pictures of an uncle who is exactly gone. It it's it's a different thing. In fact it can be the same way some some people like to like cut their hair or do something after a relationship ends, that used to be big thing in my circles was like you do something to your appearance.
Um, you know, to kind of like mark uh I'm like, I'm doing something about this. I, you know, it could be silly or not, but like, you know, people get tattoos and shit. Like sometimes it helps to like say, well You know, right? Done and dusted, sorted. I'm I'm I'm done with that thing. So just I I friends, I am not at all trying to be hurtful or give you advice or say that you're any particular way. It's just that that for me, the pain of that or the um the d in some cases the trauma of that, that was part of my life. And it's difficult for me to reintegrate new ideas about stuff by saying, well, my solution for this is Did you ever see women talking? No. Oh boy, it's that the Sarah Polly movie.
Oh it's got it's oh it's it I mean it's just it is literally that. It's just literally women talking. But it's look at the cast Um it's it's a fucking banger of a cast. And um they basically it's a bunch of women in the loft of a barn in this religious sect. Having a conversation about whether all the women should leave the group. Oh fuck. D this has doubt vibes. I I sh I need to rewatch it. It's Merrill Street and uh Philip Seymour Hoffman. Okay, okay, doubt. Is that good? Should I watch that? Yeah. It was But it's just a and like it's touching on so many of the things we're talking about here. In some ways it's almost I think of it as uh a cousin of like twelve angry men, sort of. Like we're just we're gonna sit here and we're gonna talk about this and like every angle of it, like people who are still actively being harmed and I don't again uh uh anyway, I've said enough.
It's but like You sit around, you have these conversations about that and like, but I can't annul things from my past by fiat. And trying to do so feels like a quick fix for a hot emotion. Mm-hmm. Yeah. Well that in twenty twenty, uh with cards being canceled, that happened to Hey listen, I'm I'm having a big day I gotta go soon. Ca can we could we can I read you one thing and then we'll pick it up. challenge please Well we have our challenge oh I guess we do this is the way that the introduction to Slaughterhouse Five concludes. Oh yes peop people aren't supposed to look back I'm certainly not going to do it anymore. I finished my war book now. The next one I write is going to be fun. This one is a failure, and it had to be, since it was written by a pillar of salt.
Lot's wife doesn't even have a name, can you believe that? Mm-hmm. Sodom and Gomorrah something you really need to think about I know. I love you. raw transcript
